I've just adopted a *third* cat ... Simone is coming home this morning

We (my wife and boys and I) have decided, on my urging, to adopt yet another cat for the house. She is currently named "Saber" and is a three year old domestic short hair. Slightly tortise colour but with a great deal of copper in her. She's very tiny for three, slim and elegant. And a lap cat that's good with the boys and yours truly (aka the Cat Whisperer). I'm picking her up in about an hour. We're renaming her Simone (we think) and she'll join Mia (5) and Russell (4) in our house. Picture to follow later today.
Yes, three cats. I am nuts.
PS. There is, of course, none as great as the one to the left. Our Milly.
PPS. Happy Mother's Day to all your moms.

Well... maybe not that nuts.
And I wouldn't rename Saber if I were you. She has a name she answers to and identifies with, and everything else in her life is going to change, maybe it would be easier for her to adjust if she at least had her own name.

I'm 25% more nuts-- 4 cats. One of whom is a Maine Coon weighing in at 22 pounds. So, weightwise, I'm probably like 40-50% more nuts.
We used to have one cat.
Then, we got adopted by 2 strays who ended up coming with us when we moved.
Then our first cat was killed by coyotes. Then our young and foolish cat went missing, and we were down to one cat.
My wife felt that one cat was not enough (although the remaining cat may have had a different opinion, he was not consulted).
So, we went to the pound where I promptly fell in love with the big Maine Coon. The night we went home with Earl (the Maine Coon), our missing cat showed up (after almost 3 weeks, in high Coyote season). So, back up to 3.
The 4th cat is a 17-year old guy who was owned by a little old lady who was dying of cancer. My wife found about him on Craigslist. The lady's sister wanted us to adopt all four of her cats, but I wisely pointed out that we were pretty booked up catwise (not to mention our 2-year-old daughter).
Sebastian, the 17-year old, is the skinniest, littlest, and oldest cat but he is the undisputed boss of the other cats now. I have seen him cornering Earl (who is no kidding 3 times as big) quite a few times.
Anyway, good for you.

I feel so inadequate. I have 3 animals total, but only 2 cats. Does a 70lb Labrador Retriever count as more than 1 cat?
I have the gamer buddy cat who watches very riveted while I'm gaming at my desk:

The cat who attempts to eat your feet while you are comfortably resting under your covers

And finally the dog who ferociously dominates other dogs, but strangely enough not the cats:

Rusty is curled up on my desk to the left of the keyboard and Cagey is sharing my chair with me. Cagey is a 15 pound Maine Coon mix so he pretty much takes up the chair.

Actually, she's staring at it thinking, "What the hell is that? Why isn't the female human reading Robert Sawyer's new sci-fi novel Wake instead?" Women, sigh.

Unless you have an understanding wife, might be an idea to not let her know what you (& the cat) really think of her choice of reading material. Then again, she might have similar thoughts about Robert Sawyer.
