Got it. It took forever to download to iTUnes, then another forever to install on the phone. Now it's there I realise just how long ago I last played it, and how much I've forgotten. Wandering around that damned island and poking things at the moment, but I'm sure it'll start to come back to me ... eventually!

I had 58 apps on there before, using a modest 500 MBytes. Myst takes that to 59 apps and 1.2 GBytes!

Yikes! That's definitely the biggest iPhone program so far. How are the first experiences with the game? Better than the shoddy DS port?

I never played the DS port, it's a looong time since I had an old enough Mac and OS to play it.

The original had a cursor that changed when it was over a hot spot. There are no hot spot clues in the iPhone version, so you occasionally have to guess where you can tap to direct your view. But generally it feels like I remember. The graphics are still those beautifully rendered images, and the sounds and movies are mostly the same. The first difference, though, was the intro - no movie, just a sound track.

You can get a flavour of it by looking at the Extras on the Cyan  web site. There's a movie of the game in action and some screenshots in the Extras tab.

Just played around with it a bit: My first impression is really good. Even though the intro movie is missing, graphics, sound effects and the overall atmosphere is as original as it gets. You can adjust the transition speed, which is nice and makes for a very "fluid" experience. It plays smoother than on my Quadra 660av back in the 90's.

The game feels as it would have been written with the iPhone in mind. Great stuff.

Hm. That was together with the low resolution of the graphics that made it nearly impossible to find the smaller interaction sites the biggest problem with the DS version...

Hmm. Not sure how to get back to playing from scratch again to check. It always takes me back to where I was in the game when I restart.

Holy crap I can't even fit this game on my iPod!

If I deleted a few paid apps from my iPod to make room, could I redownload them later or is Apple weird about that just like music downloads? Always been curious about the Myst series.

I bought it through iTunes on my iMac, then simply deleted some items from my 8GB touch until I had room.

No, the apps are handled more generously. First of all, you can delete apps on your iPod without deleting them from your computer (the same as with music). Secondly, when you try to buy an app again that you already bought earlier, you are reminded of that and offered to download the app once more for free.
