As you may already know, a sequel was recently announced to 2007's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. The sequel, which is set to be released on November 10, 2009, has been creatively titled Modern Warfare 2. Fortunately, this one's being made by Infinity Ward rather than Treyarch (The team that made CoD 3 & 5).
The first teaser is available at Infinity Ward's website, with a slightly higher quality version available at GameTrailers.
So, IMG, what are your thoughts on the game, and it's new setting (or lack thereof)?
edit: COD:MW-2 hasn't been confirmed for Mac yet, but it's predecessor was ported rather well, so we can only assume that this one will follow suit.

"Heard joke once: Man goes to doctor. Says he's depressed. Says life seems harsh and cruel. Says he feels all alone in a threatening world where what lies ahead is vague and uncertain. Doctor says Treatment is simple. Great clown Pagliacci is in town tonight. Go and see him. That should pick you up." Man bursts into tears. Says "But Doctor... I am Pagliacci."

I playing COD:WAW right now and having beaten both it and COD4 quite soundly I think the modern warfare theme is better. I love the World War II stuff but it has just been down so many times that it getting quite old. I'll most likely buy this game for both PS3 and PC.
I assume that it has a new engine over COD4 so a mac port will take a quite a while if ever

Probably not a new engine, because the one in CoD4 and WaW is the same base engine as seen in CoD 2, but with some big additions in terms of lighting and other effects, whilst also further optimising it to get good performance out of the consoles.
Since the console architecture isnt going anywhere, theres no real need to create a new engine unless the engine you already have isnt giving you the performance and graphics payoff that you want. Which right now would probably mean a shift over to a deferred renderer as seen in GTA4 and KZ2. But that is more than 2 years work.
So I doubt that its a new engine, but the CoD4 engine tweaked in several areas and with a bundle of extra polish heaped on it to make it look that bit prettier.
In terms of actual gameplay, I expect itll largely be more of the same. They hit a sweet spot with the mix they created, so theyll probably reproduce that as much as possible, add in vehicles and other ideas that got cut from CoD 4, give it a new setting (analysis from the teaser trailer points to Brazil) and continue to ride the wave of popularity.
Maybe Modern Warfare 3 will mix things up again, necessitating a Dark Forces 4: Jedi Knight 3: Jedi Academy style situation.
Call of Duty 7: Modern Warfare 3: Eastern Crisis... just a thought.

Explain to me where the Brazil setting comes from.
The only location I identified was an oil rig, which would suggest that the game will once again be taking place in "unidentified-istan", somewhere in the Middle East. It's not the most original setting, but it's certainly more interesting and relevant than "NAZIS ARE BAD LET'S BLOW THEM UP, YEEHAW!"

I've read the Brazil thing other places in the web. Basically some COD fanboys went through the video frame by frame and identified some brazilian landmarks.

Exactly, we must be very thankful that they exist, so we do not need to do the very long and painstaking tasks then, but instead go to work, which is essentially the same thing.
