Well, whaddya know...I was one of those who contributed to Warlords not selling so great (it just didn't seem that interesting to me, sorry!), but I'll go for this one.

It is what I think what you think it is: a product page for the Mac version of BtS.

Unfortunately, that comes to late for me: I have bought Civ IV Complete for Windows and have it running under CrossOver Games. As much as I want to support native Mac gaming, I don't see me buying another copy of the game.

I do have it for the PC as well, because I have use of a laptop through my school.  I never bothered to run it through Parallels though.  So, I'll be grabbing this one.

All I'll say is I hope that page is a recent addition ready for a welcome announcement - rather than a remnant left from before they decided not to bother porting it ;)

I'd say it's current. The game page number is 108. Cryostasis is the "Coming Soon" game featured on the front page, and is number 107.  Civ4 Gold Edition was the last release, and is 106. Other currently featured games have numbers like 102, 103, 105.

RECOMMENDED SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5.6
CPU Speed: 2.0 GHz
Memory: 1 GB
Video RAM: 128 MB
It definitely looks current. The system requirements have 10.5.6 for recommended OS which is as recent as you can get.

I wonder if this renewed interest in Civ IV is a prelude to Colonization being announced soon too. It uses the same engine as Civ IV and the Wiki page for Colonization said that a OS X version was reported to the ESRB.

As it happens, I just did a search on the ESRB website and Aspyr has submitted Beyond the Sword. Sadly they don't list the date.

Hopefully it'll fix some of the graphics problems.. I'm still having black textures when installing Warlords.

What I don't get though - Why put out Civ4 Gold, and not include BtS? O_o Milking the cow with a platinum edition in one year?

BtS is an expansion. People who already have Civ4 would not want to buy a "Complete" package just to add BtS, so they still need to offer the two products.

I get that, but it still doesn't explain my question. What I mean is, why would I want to buy Warlords and not BtS?

Because it's a valid, different expansion. And in any case, BtS isn't out yet! Apart from an unlinked incomplete under construction page, it isn't even announced.

Can you blame them? Aspyr is only following the same route Firaxis originally did: Civ IV > Warlords > Civ IV Gold (Civ IV + Warlords) > BtS > Civ IV Complete (Civ IV + Warlords + BtS) > Colonization > Civ IV Ultimate Collection (Civ IV + Warlords + BtS + Colonization)

Hmmm... To turn this topic upside down - Is Colonization (THe new one) worth it? The old one rocked, but.. I can't believe they have much in common.

If this is real, count me in as a sale!
I was just shopping eBay for CIV complete for PC and running it under crossover.
However, I am one skeptical sob...
but if it ships, we will buy it... my son will be even more thrilled than I!

maybe having Brad O back at Aspyr was the catalyst?

I recall reading somewhere that parts of CIV BtS were mods that users wrote.
All required .dll support.  If they have .dll support in CIV now, that would blow the whole mods scene wide open (and provide more sales of CIV besides).  I would guess that the .dll thing is what they ported.  So no change to the mod situation...

even so... SALE!
