I wish someone would make a game for the Mac where you have to find hidden objects, because then... Oh WAIT!
Am I the only one who is simultaneously baffled and nauseated by the relentless announcements of new Mac games which involve finding hidden objects? Seriously, if I could invest money in my predictions of the gameplay of every new game announced by MacGameStore or IMG, I would be filthy rich, since all I would have to guess each time is "hidden object?" Enough already! For the love of all that is holy and sacred in this world, please stop. You're embarrassing all of us, and yourselves. Apple should start running commercials saying "Buy a Mac, especially if you like hidden object games."

What do you expect? They're games for the easily entertained (stupid) masses. I just ignore them with the rest of the crap that's out there.

Does trying to find snipers in COD4 count?

You calling Brad Oliver stupid? ;) (Well, I don't see the appeal myself, but hey.)

I doubt that, because I have done that before (on BF2 mind you). It takes a skill, and is quite fun and challenging.

It's quite simple, really. A shiny, easy-to-use computer (i.e. Mac) appeals to kids, so mac publishers adjust their games accordingly.
You can't really blame them for trying to make a profit.

I hate to bite the hand that has fed me in the past (I've written some reviews for IMG, and feel a certain obligation) but the never-ending announcements of the games that simulate work ("L'il Pet Shop!" L'il Beauty Salon!" "L'il Self-Storage Facility!" "L'il Dishwasher Repairman!" L'il Wedding Planner!" "L'il Real Estate Agent!") get pretty old. I have a feeling that neither I nor anyone who regularly reads the site and the forums are really the target audience for these games. This is based on never ever seeing any response to these postings at all. Maybe they're really the most popular games they sell.

There obviously is a decent market for these, otherwise why bother making them?

For those of us who prefer other kinds of games, we can only hope that game developers will announce their new hidden object games, but then make them impossible to find. Put up a photo of their kid's bedroom and say, "The game is hidden somewhere in this mess. Find it, input your billing info and the game will start downloading!" That way, fans of the genre get their fix trying to find the game (which doesn't even exist), and the rest of us get some peace and quiet for a few months.

That's pretty much what I figure. I downloaded one once and that was the end of that. But for now it looks like these games are here to stay.

I don't mind playing an occasional casual game to smooth off a rough edge of stress. However, like all ideas, they are done in mass by those who want to capitalize on someone else's success, thinking they can too. Thus that is how we have five hundred hidden object games, two thousand tetris like games, and fifty billion connect four/five/six type games.

I enjoy 'one' good one in each genre of casual game. I can't stand all of them.

My daughter really enjoys the I-Spy games, which are obviously aimed at a younger audience. I'll admit that they are pretty cool games with fairly high production values.
With the paucity of I-Spy games for the Mac, I figured I'd download a demo of some hidden object game (Museum some or other). Ugh. What a suckfest. I found that searching a poorly rendered picture for some object that was so hidden it bordered on complete concealment to be somewhat less than entertaining.

Yeah, I will admit, something that's always bothered me about this site is how seriously they take shovelware. It should at least have its own section, or something. Then again, not like there's anything else to write about in Mac Gaming most of the time. :/
