Ages if you are simply listening to music, changing the track once in a while. 4 hours at most if you are doing anything else.

right, thats about what i wanted to know. thanks guys!
i just didnt know if my battery lif was lower than others or what. If it isnt, fair enough.
Ive been using it a lot to web browse, since my computer sits nowhere near where i have to sit with my son during the day, and the battery sorta dies quick.
Guess i need to splurge and get a standalone charger.

I feel your pain. Due to my obsessive iPhone usage, I have a charger in my car, cable for home (Mac Pro), Office (iMac), another cable for my MacBook and then the standalone for a time at the now ex-GF's house. Fortunately, years of iPoding has left me with more than a few iPod cables.
However, my iPod charger that I used for years I quickly learned was "unsupported" for the iPhone. The Touches are just as finicky if I'm not mistaken. Be sure to buy a iPhone/Touch compatible charger. (See, there was a point after all to this post)

I have a 1st gen iPod Touch and my battery never lasts long at all - just playing music. Might just be the battery's age though.
I think the most frustrating part is that Apple doesn't give you a wall charger. Gotta change the sleep settings on the Mac just to charge the dang thing! I always forget to change them back...

yup, usb ports should only have token power to acknowledge a change of status (something being unplugged, mouse clicks, keyboard hits).

Cube - G4 1.7Ghz 7448 / 1.5Gb RAM / Samsung Spinpoint 250GB / Geforce 6200 256Mb
We won! Apple offer the 17" with a matte screen! Well... at a price...

there are USB ports in my Samsung LCD, which is where i plug in the iPod. Theyre always full-power, even when the machine is off.
And yeah, its sorta blech that Apple doesnt give you wall charger anymore, but i got a multi-device charger/AC adapter that has a USB port in it - it works great, and i can charge my Sony eReader with it too. It was about 15 bucks at Walmart.

I bought a Griffin PowerDuo for about 35 bucks. It has a wall charger to USB and a car cigarette lighter to USB plus a spare cable. I usually only use my computer to charge my iPod nano when I have some syncing to perform.
