My MacBook Pro is about 6-7 months old, and i have noticed that the few times that i have used it portable, the battery only lasts about 30 mins, then puts itself into standby, which i can't get it out of unless i plug it in. I'm not really doing anything demanding portable, just surfing the internet and doing Excel work. When i press that little button on the bottom where the battery is, it shows 1 light and it blinks. So i'm guessing that means it's dead? So what's going on, is this normal for the battery to last this long? I have iStat Pro in the widgets, and i noticed that it currently says that the health of the battery is 18%, 12 cycles, and charge is 100%, if that helps at all.

Try resetting the SMC: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411
Then check the battery status: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1490
If that doesn't work Apple will replace your battery.

yup, do both of those then give AppleCare a call. After jumping through their diagnostic hoops, theyll send out a new battery, delivery paid both ways. Its a really nice service and part of the reason why Apple's customer service is so highly rated.
Polytetrafluoroethylene to my friends.
