OT: Not Mac
I just came across this BBC article which discusses the end of Microsoft's flight simulator game. Probably old news to those who follow the genre. BBS: Microsoft Ends Flight Simulator -------------------- "There is no end to sorrow." ---Van Gogh

I'm an X-Plane man myself and simply chuckled when that news broke a few weeks ago.

My first flight simulator was the Microsoft flight simulator on the Fat Mac 512. I still have it, but it is on a single sided floppy and I don't have a machine to read the disks or run the game. I had a LOT of fun with that, buying books on flying and so on.

I got started with Flight Simulator back on the 512 like tBC. Given it hasn't been for Mac in quite some time, though, it didn't really bother me when I heard it was being ended in the news.

My first flight sim was Donald Hill's black and white wireframe P51 on a Mac Plus. But I've flown every single Mac simulator since then, except the helicopter ones.

Why not helos? In some ways, I think they would be more fun.

Ahhh, I see. Fair enough, I like helos more, although I haven't really used them in proper simulation yet.

Just not that into them. When you use one to strafe an enemy position with hydras and subsequently dive behind a hill as an SA-7 that some jerkwad fired at you veers off course before you pop back up like a deranged savage warrior on a mission from the Great Rotary Spirit before blowing him to smithereens with your 30mm gun that you aimed just by looking at the guy you wanted dead, THEN... ... then you will know the true wonder of the helicopter. -------------------- The Big Endian

I was not exactly thinking that, but now I need to find a helicopter simulator. That just sounds freaking awesome.
By the way, I cannot really call BF2 and others like it simulation, but still it has made me think about the helicopter and what it can do.* Liberator. *I have been learning about basic motion in my physics classes. -------------------- iMac G5: 2.0 GHz l 1GB RAM l OSX 10.4.11 l ATI Radeon 9600 l 128 MB VRAM iMac C2D: 2.16GHz l 2GB RAM l OSX 10.4.11 l nVidia 7600GT l 256 MB VRAM If you realise that all things change, there is nothing you shall try to hold on to. FYI we have a Universal patch in development so any EE owners PM me and I will see if I can send you the beta Edwin Will you also 1) Lower the price if you're planning to sell the game again? The game was released for PC in 2000 and for Mac in... what, 2004? 2005?. It isn't even available for sale for the PC anymore (in Sweden at least) 2) Release an Universal Demo 3) Make sure it's possible to DL the demo (the PPC one that you link to here can't be found on MacGameFiles anymore. |

Indeed -- that link doesn't work.
I was forced to use BitTorrent -- which I loathe -- and after an hour it's 0.00% progress. It's only 86 MB -- could someone put the "Enemy Engaged" demo online, please ? -------------------- CLICK > "paisleyATOM"-- Your Source For Apple Computer Entertainment
