A little. Not enough to understand Japanese movies without subtitles, though. I spent half a year there.

did I pronounce it right? I did Japanese GCSE.
Still have one of the textbooks and been meaning for ages to try and re-teach myself.
On the plus side I can still read/interpret most hiragana and katakana into romanji... Its just from there that Id have difficulties, no kanji, and no translation into english....

Bascially yes. "U"s after consonants tend to be not pronounced in Japanese, so that the first word is spoken "fransgo" – which should make obvious where the word originally stems from.

Also "R"s are pronounced with the "L" sound.

Other way around, actually, that's the Japanese that tend to turn Ls to the Rs, and the Chinese that turn Rs into Ls. :D

When playing the Dynasty Warriors games I always used to turn on the Japanese voiceovers just for the hilarity. It's especially funny when listening to the Japanese voice actors trying to pronounce Chinese names... Liu Bei was always the best one. Turns into "Rrryoobi!"

Hey, youre an aussie, I remember that quite a lot of you types learn how to speak jap.

well... thats my rampant stereotyping and mild racism done for the day.

in my time at school I did Spanish, Japanese and Italian. I live in England and am half Austrian.
So thats 5 languages bitches! (well, I get Spanish and Italian confused all the time, cant remember anything but arigato gosaimapopsnizzlea and 1-20 in Japanese, and was never taught real German, so muddle by with some semi-decent speech, basic reading comprehension and zero writing, but still!)

I dunno man, in Wild Zero, it sounds a lot like Guitar Wolf is shouting "LOCK N' LOLL!". I thought it was just that they had no difference between the two phonemes, so the sound made is sort of a hybrid, but I'm certainly not sure about that.
