Strategy Informer recently published a new article about CCP Games future plans for the sci-fi MMO, EVE Online. The article includes discussion of CCP Games recent updates to the game as well as the upcoming Apocrypha expansion and the anticipated release of the "Walking in Stations" player avatar upgrade.

The last two expansions to date, named 'Empyrean Age' and 'Quantum Rise', combined have brought about one of the most extensive evolutions to the game since its release, and has completely transformed the game. The most crucial of these recent changes are arguably the implementation of both the StacklessIO and the 64-bit software. EVE is notorious for having considerable 'lag' or latency in certain key trading hubs, especially the in-game system known as Jita.

CCP aren't going to stop there either. Always looking towards the future, CCP have already outlined their plans for the next expansion and beyond, which is themed on 'exploration'. Associate Producer Torfi Olafsson is very much looking forward to this instalment, as it will be “the biggest expansion for EVE to date, there are more developers, programmers and artists working on it than ever before.” And with it will come new map areas accessed only through wormholes; a whole new tech level, plus other major additions and revisions that they hope will make the game more appealing to both new and old players.

The most interesting of the upcoming changes though is the 'Walking in Stations' feature. At first glance, it may seem a trivial feature to include, and on some level there's really no need for it to be included at all, but CCP are doing it anyway. This could potentially unlock whole new aspects of gameplay for the players, as they can now use their avatars to interact with the environment. The depth of CCP's vision is truly highlighted in this instance, as from station interaction, the next leap would be planet interaction. Ambulation on planets,

Don't expect 'Walking in stations' (WiS) also known as 'Ambulation' to arrive soon™.

At last years fanfest CCP had an pre-alpha demo set up for the crowd there. Pre-alpha as in, what you see now can be totally not there when ever it gets live. Pretty pictures

On an whole other note, yesterday we got to learn that the to be released March 12 boxed version of EVE will be on a hybrid disk.

Where did Casqade run off to?

He's still here. He's part of the team working on the wormholes feature and is juggling a lot of work, much like the rest of us. Especially getting the retail disk to work involved a lot of testing and headaches and he was part of that team too. Yes, the retail disk which is coming with Apocrypha is going to be a hybrid disk. And damn getting those working properly is a headache if you've never tried it before. I have (learned) more about the hdiutil command and its switches than I ever thought possible.
