Hi there,

im the developer of the ETQWPro Mod for splashdamge's very own ETQW. In the past SD was kind enough to compile the MOD for us, but since i dont have time to bug them again for each version,
i'd be very pleased if any of you guys could give us a hand / tutorial on what i need to compile it.

What i have:
Leopard (macbook late 08) (no additional software, no mac version of the game)
Exported script source
Game Source

linux knowledge is available, so i guess it doesnt need to be a very detailed how to.

any help is appreciated

Not being a developer, I can't offer any help with your compiling question, though I think you have the tools you need on your Leopard install disc (Xcode Tools?). Hopefully somebody more knowledgeable (like way, way more) can confirm that for me.

What I can offer, however, is help testing the Mac version of your mod if you need it. My ETQW skills leave something to be desired, but I should be able to tell you if something is broken or not.

Wish I could help, hannes! Thanks for your effort on this. I'm eagerly looking forward to playing on the latest ETQWPro servers (and the latest custom maps).

Maybe Splash Damage could tell you what to do once, for the sake of not having to be bothered in future? I do know you can download the latest version of the Xcode suite from http://developer.apple.com/tools/xcode (and it might be newer than the one that came on the DVD).

I don't even know if you'd need the Mac version of the game or not--although you might want it to test the result. If you need another tester so that you can avoid that expense, count me in too :)

Stupid question maybe: I understand that the best/easiest way to install ETQWPro is just to let it auto-download when you join a server. Does that mean each server admin will have to obtain a copy of Mac ETQWPro to deliver?

Auto-download didn't work very well for me. Turned out manual installation is pretty simple. Just drop the "etqwpro" folder inside your "Enemy Territory Quake Wars" folder. After that, download the Mac version and then drop the single file in the zip (game001.pk4) into the "etqwpro" folder.

Before you launch Quake Wars, make sure that inside your home_folder/Library/Application Support/ETQW folder there is not an etqwpro folder already. If there is, trash it. Once you're sure that's cleaned up, you can launch Quake Wars and then you should be able to select etqwpro from the "mods" menu.

So... was anybody ever able to help hannes with his question? It'd be nice to have the latest version of ETQWPro, especially since hannes seems willing to take the time to work on it for us. Not having the latest version isn't just an issue for the Mac users that want to play ETQW competitively (which is a group I'm not one of), but it's also an issue for any ETQW Mac players that want to join any of the public servers that are running community maps. Pretty much all the custom map servers use ETQWPro 1.0 to help facilitate auto downloads.

I gotta say, I'm kind of surprised that after three weeks there doesn't seem to have been much of response to his request. Maybe someone PM'd him and they're working on it. Right now, it doesn't look that way though. I would have figured that with all the smart types that run around here that somebody would have been able to at least head him in the right direction. Hopefully there's been some action somewhere and I'm just not privy to it.

Thanks for the update, hannes.

Maybe a Mac programmer's forum is what's needed?

Awesome! I'll make a backup of my QW install and get in touch :)

EDIT: I can just join that test server with no advance preparation or downloads, in theory? Will try that this evening. Thanks!

Just tried it--finally. Nobody else was in the Mac test server, but as near as I can tell it works :) And I didn't have to download or install a thing manually.

Just filter to show mod servers (and unranked) only. You'll see pro.hlds.pl ETQWPro RANKED Experimental Mac support listed (at least at the moment). You'll need PunkBuster (at top right of server list) enabled.

When you join, the mod auto-installs quite quickly. The Mac desktop re-appears for a moment as the game restarts, and then you'll be in the game. Very painless.

And now that my disc is in my machine again, I'm in danger of returning to my QW addiction :)
