I have set up an ad-hoc wireless network on my mac and used my Windows XP laptop to join the network. It acquires an IP and connects fine, but I can't get file sharing to work. I have turned on windows file sharing and am sharing files on the XP machine too, but neither can find the other. I have tried pinging in both directions and both return 'host unreachable' any ideas?
BTW, neither machine is firewalled.
Simon
UPDATE: I have discovered the the XP machine isn't actually getting assigned an IP, it is giving up and assigning itself one... can't figure out how to solve this yet

The quickest way I know how to get your setup working is to turn on Internet Sharing on your OS X Machine. You want to set it so your ethernet connection is shared to your airport card. That will enable the built in DHCP server and assign the necessary settings to your XP machine.
