It will most likely start up but be unplayable on anything but the lowest of lowest settings.

Everyone apparently hates this game now, so it's all a moot point anyway. ;-)

Why this happened, I have no idea. I might use as the basis for a dissertation.

yeah it did, but part of that is just the GTA legacy and the fact that its such a massive step up from GTA:SA. But the main complaints lay in having to nanny around a bunch of losers so that they stay being your friends. When all that people want to do is steal a car, punch a granny in the fanny (british meaning not US), and then crash into a freakishly strong tree which destroys your car...

no wait, people dont want that last bit.

I dont think the X1600 in the MBP is going to be up to the task. For one thing the minimum is an X1900, which is a big step up from the X1600, and for another its the mobility chip, which means its even lower down the power scale.
So I would avoid for a while and wait for people to try it on their machines and then complain that it runs really really badly..

The nets is afire with complaints about how poorly it runs, even on very high-end machines.

Maybe I'll buy San Andreas instead. :-)

You don't have to nanny them at all. You can tell them to get fire trucked with absolutely no repercussions towards the game at all.

Performance sucks on my Macbook Pro (2.5 Ghz, 8600 GT 512 MB) and it doesn't look that great, but the game is so good that I don't even care.
