I got a fridge full of left-overs.

On Black Friday, I got some good deals on DVDs for my wife and son. (OK, a couple for me too.)

I didnt get anything.
Im British/Austrian.
Thanksgiving is a purely US holiday which, through the subsequent creation of Black Friday, creates such a hyperactive sense of shopping fervour, often leading to some of the most despicable acts of human selfishness and lack of concern for others.
Having said all that, Thanksgiving itself is a nice holiday, descended, as it is, from Harvest Festivals, even if it does steal Jesus' thunder (even though Christianity stole the timing from more local winter festivals and the Roman's celebrations of the Winter Solstice).

So I hope you all had a good Thanksgiving.

We are eating the last of it today, having applied ourselves diligently over the last couple of days.  We normally do our shopping before Thanksgiving to avoid the holiday crush.  I bought some software online and my wife found a DVD that she meant to give to me on my birthday but spaced out on it.  It's a cool DVD, it is a presentation of the news, events, and people for my birth year.  Today we are putting up Christmas decorations.

Seeing as this has quickly become a general post-turkey day musing thread ;)

No Thanksgiving leftovers because we ate at someone else's house, but today I've got a pork roast that I'm going to soak in a Sweet & Spicy brine that I threw together (sea salt, cayenne, cloves, peppercorns, garlic, sugar, allspice, star anise, etc) and am going to slow cook it for a handful of hours tomorrow. Got some purple potato fingerlings and russian banana potato fingerlings that I'll cook up somehow... maybe make some stuffing. Made none of my favorite cranberry relish this year, so I may have to go to the store and get the stuff for that as well.

S'posed to put up Christmas lights today, but it snowed last night and I have no beer in the house. Those two have pretty much shot my enthusiasm!

Ordered a Blu-ray player and some movies from Amazon, picked up a few video games on black friday (Woohoo! Dead Space for $30!), and that's about it so far.

Here is a good recipe for cranberry relish:

2 cups fresh cranberries
1 apple
1 seedless orange
1 cup sugar

Quarter and core apple and set to side.  Peel orange an break into wedges that will fit into food processor or meat grinder.  Run the orange and apple through the food processor until it is mush.  Remove from processor and put into bowl.  Process cranberries but leave them in fine chunks.  Mix orange, apple, cranberries and sugar in the bowl.  Cover the bowl and serve the next day.  Good stuff.  You might want to use less sugar, the recipe called for 2 cups but I used one and it was still a little sweet.  I figure half a cup will do, and I'll try that next year.

How does that work?

Scientifically, we actually need to eat vegetables and fruits. The amount that we need cannot be taken from dead/alive wildlife.

Yeah, well, my flame-thrower takes care of everything. It is so much easier than carrying around all of the other "tools." Let me demonstrate.

Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables?

A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies. What does a cow eat? Hay and corn. And what are these? Vegetables. So a steak is nothing more than an efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system. Need grain? Eat chicken. Beef is also a good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable). And a pork chop can give you 100% of your recommended daily allowance of vegetable products.

Eric and you too tBC, I am sadly stating a fact, not an opinion, and this we need to digest a large enough amount of these forign foods that are veggies and fruits to stay alive. It can be assured that I like meat a lot more than any other average Joe around here.
