So I've been having these problems for a long time. Finally figured out why they were happening and how to fix them (Port Forwarding)

Now the problem seems to be that when i Port Forward, the ports don't actually open. I cant play games on Steam, I cant play games on PSN, cant use Torrents at any reasonable speed because the ports refuse to open.

Does this all come down to my ISP supplied modem? D-Link DSL-302g. Or are there more sinister forces at hand? :glare:

Do you assign machines on the network fixed IP addresses, or do you let the base station hand them out? Your machine's IP address may be different than what it was when you set your switch to forward the ports.

Theyre static, all my networked computers. All the base station does is turn the internet connection into a wireless signal, its in Fullbridge mode.

I'm getting sick of this modem! Nothing makes sense. Who wants to recommend a modem that i can Buy of ebay for Cheap that will be static IP/Port Forwarding friendly and will work with my ISP.

Speaking of that, what is the deal with getting a modem to work with my ISP... will any modem work? Or does it have to be preloaded with popsnizzle ISP firmware?

I've always been a fan of Netgear's DG834G. Cheap(ish), holds its value well, simple to set up, works. Works better than any other modem/router I've been given by an ISP.

If you're using DSL (which judging from your router, you are), there shouldn't be any craptastic custom firmware on it. You just enter login details. My ISP do something a bit nastier. I'm not sure what, as I've never bothered to find out, but there's some preloaded junk on my craptacular router :(

I'm actually TOO good at both TMFPPG and Fable:TLC.
I sleep in a BBEdit T-shirt, but I'm a TextMate user.
