Hi all. I'm looking for the hint book of Citadel: Adventure of the Crystal Keep. The book itself or an electronic copy. Or eventually someone who have it and could answer some of my questions to this game.

For the quote it's a game released in 1989, perhaps 1990. Its main author is David Pavan and the second main author is Dennis Zahorchak. It's been released (probably only on Mac) by Postcraft Internationnal Inc. I have an address of this: 27811 Avenue Hopkins, Suite 6, Valencia, CA 91335. Alas it seems to have disappeared. I find some links on Internet to this company but all are old and seems unrelated to the company that released the game. I also tried to search on Internet around the names of the main authors but found nothing.

I search all the Internet about the game and found only very few stuff. I even search on Internet if no site/shop or anything was related to old mac game but found nothing.

So I tempt my chance here in hope that someone have the hint book and see this post. :)

If anybody here has played the game then perhaps they could help Gliniolu past the part of the game which is stumping him.

Yes I'd love get the hint book but if someone can fill my curiosity about some riddles/puzzles I let unsolved, that would be great.

It's so weird that anybody who played this game and eventually got the hint book has disappeared from surface of Internet. Well the game was a bit before Internet but you see what I mean.

Is this the game that was party-based and had a weird pseudo-realtime combat system? I recall a game where I ended up getting this hammer that you would throw and it would come back to you... anyways this hammer made me pretty much invincible since it seemed to act much more quickly than any other weapon.

Either way, I unfortunately have no recollection of that particular riddle.

That is most probably this game except I don't think there's any hammer that works like you quote. But there's such weapons and they are a hole in the fight system. For keeping challenge in fights you should give up use those sort of weapons.

I don't remember such problem in my original play on a Mac Plus, eventually with a low cpu this is less a hole but I remember those weapons was helping. When I recently replayed the game in an emulator it was a clear hole but also the game didn't seem to "over run" ie speed too fast than normal.

Too bad you don't remember anything well it was the same for me. Perhaps you can remember something else? Like how free the princess and where/what is the key to the musical riddle?

Hi do you still need help?I played this game when I was very young and am wrapped to find it again!!!

Freeing the princess is easy... it involves the skull wands. There are several wands to find. Good luck with that.

My main gripe with this game is gold, you need so much to progress you characters and there's not an abundance of gold in this game from fights. I know you get, what, 400 gp from killing dragons. But when you need 900 gp just to go to level 3 fighter, it gets a little stupid.

Hi, thanks, I suspected it about the skull wand but wasn't sure when I replayed it few time ago. I also saw this hint in some newsgroup. When I replayed it I seek a lot them but didn't found enough of them. I found perhaps 4 but need 5.

For the gold problem I bet most players feel it like you. Here some tricks about gold and level up:
  • The trick is to sell all items that have a very high price plus all armor and weapon you don't care.
  • Another trick is to have a character with a good Mien, it makes sell price better, and then sell items only with him.
  • And one trick is to not see the game as conventional but as a roster game so one option is to create a character with a good mien just to sell items and not use him in dungeon.
  • Also use the dual class with care because their training cost more.
  • A third trick is cheating a little at the beginning if you don't find enough gold for first levels up, create some character just to get from them a donation. Again you could see it as a roster game and not see it as a real cheat.
  • And another important trick is that in any case you'll level up much more than the training you can pay but you don't need level up so much your characters. For example I finished the game with Mage 10, Cleric (a NPC) level 6, Ninja 7, Knight 6, Shaman 6, Rogue 7, yes I abuse of dual classes and it's a team without to have find the princess.
  • One more hint for later game, you'll met few monsters that will eat some levels. That's tough to bear with the rude level up you get. The good point is you don't lost the health already get from level up and your next level up with cost less as you will be lower level. So use a PC fighter for a direct confrontation so only one PC lost levels and your fighter even if low level he will get ton of health and will be quite powerful anyway.
Ho and important, to not get a too tough game in the beginning, it's important to find one of the first two riddle you discover at the beginning.
One hint for it:

My wish would be to find the original Hint book, buy it or get a scan.
