Just picked it up yesterday from Circuit City and they even threw in a free game guide. Haven't had a chance to play yet but I'm looking forward to this weekend. From what I've been able to gleen so far from the guide, Far Cry 2 bears no resemblance to the original- Jack Carver is gone ("hey, you in the shirt"), no mutagens or other alien forms. Anyway, who's picked it up? Post your feedback here as I will after I've had a chance to poke around a little.

It's on my "buy next" list for Bootcamp. Let us know what you think. There have been many complaints about DRM on that game--any problems for you?

Terrible game. Just finished it an hour ago. Thank God it was free--but I really wish I could have my time back.

Graphically great, aurally so-so, and gameplay-wise . . . well, there's a reason why people call it "Assassin's Creed 2." It is a modern day Assassin's Creed, albeit without the interesting story to give you something to look forward to. I'm sure you'll figure it out by the end (which is essentially where the devs give everyone the finger, and bow out).

Hmmm I'm not expecting much. It looks too similar to Far Cry in terms of combat ECT. I think Crysis has already beat it to the fence with everything its trying to do... a year in advance. Will be looking out for a demo though.

So the verdict is that it's not worth picking up?

Metacritic's metascore is 88. That's higher than S.T.A.L.K.E.R.'s 82, Gears of War 87 and Crysis Warhead's 84. So decide for yourself.

I just can't see any relevance in game scores anymore. Its as if in a 0-10 gauge the first 7 digits mean nothing.

The kiddies on some of the PC gaming forums have been hating on FC2 for a week now. Complaints include ho-hum graphics, endlessly respawning enemies (specifically, at road blocks), enemies that require an entire clip to kill, long travel times, uninteresting and repetitive missions, and weak weaponry.

The complains have been so bad, I haven't been able to bring myself to even start it. :-(

But Fallout 3 is almost finished downloading via Steam, so at least I have that to look forward to. :-)

Wow, I'm surprised by all the replies here. I got this a few days ago, and while I've been too busy with work to try it out that much, (I've only put in about 2 hours) I'm totally blown away by it. Ho-hum graphics? Whoever said that must have a crappy system to run it. I can run it at "very high" (one notch below ultra) with nearly maxed resolution flawlessly on my top of the line last gen Macbook Pro. It looks quite stunning, and I've done Crysis before. I haven't had any trouble with the weaponry, it looks, feels, and sounds great. More to the point, I've had no trouble popping guys, and I'm not even using the cross-hair. As far as re spawning enemies, I heard some reviews mention that. I could see why it would get annoying, but personally I don't mind it, as its just more fun for me. I've done Far Cry before as well, and the combat in this is much superior. Obviously a similar mechanic, but it can't compare in my opinion. The buddy system is cool, and I really like how you heal yourself, and also how your character is afflicted with malaria.

Mission wise I could see it getting repetitive, most of it being the kill/blow up everything variety, but so far I'm not bored because killing and blowing up stuff is just so fun. As far as travel goes, I found I was able to get around quite quickly with the vehicles. I don't think there's any form of fast travel, so I suppose if you have to go from one side of the map to the other that could take awhile. But still to me that's part of the experience, just cruising or walking the landscape. Its beautiful enough to enjoy just doing that. On the console versions you can only save at safe houses, (which I can't stand, meaning the console style save system) but with the PC you can save anytime, so that's not an issue.

Ultimately its to each their own. I'm loving it, and I know I'll dig the rest of the game. I'm a huge FPS fan, and I've played tons of them, including as I said, Crysis, and Far Cry. I won't compare it to Crysis because that's a totally different setting, story, and in some ways, gameplay mechanic. Crysis is open, but only to a point. Its still linear-ish. FC2 is very open right from the get go. It has a vast sense of scale, and I think it captures a great feel of what Africa is, or could be. I've never been there of course, but what I'm saying is it has a good atmosphere.

I'm actually not sure if there is a demo, but if there is, or one comes out, snag that and see for yourself. I'd say you'd be doing yourself a disservice to just dismiss this based on what others may say about it.

NEVER quote Metacritic, unless you want people to think you're stupid.

Clearly, you haven't played many games. Far Cry 2's graphics are about average. Also, you're totally off on the performance thing--either because your idea of "flawlessly" is way off, or you're flat-out lying. On my MacBook Pro, you're looking at 1024x640 resolution (x600-series cards are fillrate limited) with most settings at medium (a couple of things, like textures, grass, fire, and tree effects, are fine on high). With those settings, you'll stick at 30-35 fps or above.

I'm getting similar FPS on my MB Pro at 1400x900. You're right though the graphics are average but nothing like Crysis. I do like the sunrises and sunsets though. I haven't played much- maybe 4 hours but so far not much plot. I know the ultimate goal is to kill the Jackal but how the hell are you supposed to find him? Maybe this will become more apparent as I get deeper into the game. I'm also getting bored with the travel and skirmishes in between specific missions but what I really hate is the malaria. It serves only as a distraction in the game IMHO.

I do like the weaponry and the methodology for acquiring and upgrading. One thing I don't understand about it though is that I had enough diamonds for a particular silent weapon but showed as locked and I was unable to buy it.

Anyway, I do like the game overall but I'm a FPS addict and I know that skews my opinion a great deal.

For those of you playing this, the latest Nvidia drivers over on laptopvideo2go (I think it's 180.43) are specifically optimized for FC2, so that may help you with the graphics.

The game looks good and plays well on my gaming rig, but it's making me motion sick. The way the character looks down when opening doors, etc. is too much for me. It's been years since a game gave me motion sickness. Not sure I'm going to be able to finish this one.

How's the multiplayer in FC2? I saw some videos on IGN, and it looked pretty damn cool.

Also, any guesses on how it will run on my system? (see below)

"Heard joke once: Man goes to doctor. Says he's depressed. Says life seems harsh and cruel. Says he feels all alone in a threatening world where what lies ahead is vague and uncertain. Doctor says Treatment is simple. Great clown Pagliacci is in town tonight. Go and see him. That should pick you up." Man bursts into tears. Says "But Doctor... I am Pagliacci."

I can't speak from experience here, but a friend of mine (who's been rather disappointed with the game in nearly every aspect) mentioned that the multiplayer was practically worthless.
