I've got a G3 iBook (Clamshell 466 Mhz) running X.3.9. I use it almost exclusively for vintage games like the Myst series. Last night Software Update downloaded a long list of security and java updates. Now, I get error messages when I insert my game disks.
The disks show up on the desktop and I can copy files from them. I just can't play my games off of them. I have tried reinstalling the games and when I launch the game I get a message that I either have the wrong cd in the drive or I'm told I need to insert the cd.
I put a movie DVD in to see what it would do and it played that fine. It's seems to be just my games that interact with installed files. Wierd.
I've started a search for clues on other forums. Anyone here have ideas?

In another Mac forum it was pointed out to me that restarting and pressing [Cmd]+[option] in OS X does nothing. I thought it was odd that I didn't get the "do you want to rebuild?" prompt -- but, when I put my disks in and launched my game I assumed that corrected the problem. But, it shouldn't have.
Now I'm wondering if I have an intermittent problem. I will continue to observe and report back.
