Just to let you know. I got most of the way through the demo, but I'm not sure $4.99 is low enough for me to jump...

Edit: this is available for Mac, but since it's the Windows version I bet this post should be moved somewhere else. Oh, bother.

Yeah, this is Windows only so hold onto your brains because we're catching a ride underneath Otis' truck to the Windows Gaming forum.

Well, I haven't played it on Windows but on Mac I'm afraid that no matter how cheap it is it's still not a very good game. Great idea, poor execution. One of the things that baffles me about Stubbs is that it's touted as being built on the Halo engine--Odd, because Halo runs like a dream on my computer, and Stubbs runs like, well, like a zombie wearing lead boots covered in cement.

Multiple full-screen pixel shaders and PPC-only places Stubbs' Mac performance between a rock and a hard place.

It's entirely disappointing. It seems to be $5 on Steam since Aspyr won't support it any more. They haven't even put any of the patches up on Steam, from what I see, and those might even fix some of the extant problems. I've got a few hours left to commiserate a bit with the demo and see if it's worth it. Keep up the good work, Aspyr.

Here is the Windows Stubbs patch. I'm not sure how Steam works with patches but if you can apply patches by hand then there is the patch.

Thanks for that. Linking to the Aspyr page would have gotten me this clue a bit earlier:

This public patch is not compatible with the Digital Download(Direct2Drive, Steam) version of the game. The digital download version is already up-to-date.

I pulled the trigger and I guess I'll see how well it works in an hour. Glenda, don't fail me now!

Hmm, going by that thread, there's a reason to play Stubbs on the Mac after all.

Its one of those games where you have to have the magical combination of parts and software that matched their two beta tester's machines when they ported it to PC.

I never was able to see the hippos and hear the Stubbs' developers commentary due to some sort of bug. That was a huge disappointment to me, but Quicksilver supplied them to me to put on my website so I did eventually get to hear them. Apparently he had the magical combination, but I sure didn't.

Dual 2.0 GHz G5, 2 GB of RAM, and a pre-production Radeon X800XT. I still have those files, in case you were wondering. ;-)

My setup was a G4/450 with 1 Ghz Sonnet Encore/ST G4 upgrade, 1.5GB main memory, and a 2xAGP w/ ATI Radeon 9800 Mac Pro 128. I was also using a Dual 2.7Gh G5, 2.5Gb main memory, with a 8xAGP w/ ATI X850 XT video card. Both of which had no magic at all! And don't lose those sound files, you are my backup!!
