So I got Sid Meier's Pirates! yesterday. :)

But to my big surprise after I'd started up the game the first time was the in-game language in Spanish (I think). The preference meny that starts up when lanuching the game is in English, but there are no options to set game-language. This makes it virtually impossible to play Sid Meier's Pirates since I've to guess what the text is saying and the story telling text makes no sense. And that is not a particularely funny game to play (pun intended).

Didn't Ferel test the game on systems running other languages then English (mine is in Swedish)? How big is this blunder on a scale 1-10? It is an 9.5 in my book. Ferel totally droped the ball this time.

Do I have to wait for a patch for this to work, or is there an easy work-around for this major bug? Or must I claim a refund?

Well, it is not on their "game list".

I sent an e-mail yesterday but still no answer. I think this is an unknown issue to them since they obviously didn't tested it on a Swedish system. My guess is that the game automatically pick "Spainish" as the language since it is the closest to "Swedish" instead of "English". Something is borked though.

have you tried temporarily setting your system's language to english and launching then? also try installing under english and see if that changes it.

Yes, I actually did that yesterday before I got to bed. I set the system-language to English and the game then played in English.

This is a very annoying feature (since I have to log out an in again to play, and then log out and in again to set back the language). The game obviouysly checks the system language and find "Swedish", and then pick "Spanish" as the in-game language since it comes first in the alphabetical order. What newbee programed this feature? Really?

But at least I can play Pirates! again, on OS X this time. :)

if youve not got a response from the email system yet, send a PM to edddeduck on the forum, who works at Feral and hangs around these forums a fair bit.

Try heading into the Pirates! application (is it an application package or an app and a data folder?) and rooting around to look for the spanish and other language files and remove them. Then the game should be forced to load up in English.

Well, fixed it myself:

Right click on the Pirates application and select Show package contents. Navigate to /Contents/Resources/ and delete all folders ending with .lproj, except the one called English.lproj.

Have fun!

Well, obviously. Pirates speak Spanish (I think). Thus, Pirates! speak Spanish as well.

Either charmin and teflon are twins (which is likely; they both have suspiciously lower-case names after all), or it took charmin at least 8 minutes to laboriously type that out....

Well, you could have used the offical Mac way to do this by right clicking on the Pirates application, selecting "Information" and then simply deactivating all languages except English under "Languages".

Well, its a game about pirates, so you cant do it the easy way. You have to open the treasure box, dvelve into it, and find the loot that you were after. And then throw everything unneeded away. Oh, and pirate chicks. And sails.
