Since our beloved and well respected Feral employee eddeduck is regularily visiting our nice little forum, it makes some sense to create a list, which classic games the most passionate Mac gamers (we) would like to see on the Mac.

Please bear in mind that these games should meet the requirements of the "Legends" concept: Pretty low system specs, playable on Intel integrated crap, and some kind of mass appeal.

My first entries would be:

The Longest Journey (the original one, not Dreamfall)
One of the more recent "Settler" or "Anno" games

Inofficial FERAL LEGENDS Charts / October 21, 2008

Rules to get into the charts: At least 2 votes from 2 different users, game is playable/could run with some modifications on GMA chips. To suggest a game like Oblivion seems kind of pointless to me. The same applies to multi-million-dollar licenses like Half-Life 2 or already ported games (Deus-Ex).

1. Psychonauts, 2005 (Double Fine) / 6 Votes
2. The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, 2002 (Bethesda) / 5 votes
3. Beyond Good & Evil, 2004 (Ubi Soft) / 4 votes
4. GTA San Andreas / Vice City, 2005 (Rockstar Games) / 4 votes
5. Company of Heroes, 2006 (THQ) / 3 Votes
6. Galactic Civilizations II, 2006 (Stardock) / 3 votes
7. Marvel Ultimate Alliance, 2006 (Activision) / 3 votes
8. Planescape: Torment, 2000 (Interplay) / 3 votes
9. Fahrenheit, 2005 (Atari) / 2 votes
10. F.E.A.R. , 2005 (Monolith) / 2 votes

Due to the rising number of requests games released BEFORE the year 2000 cannot be accepted anymore.
Let's face it: Those gamers are not old, they're ancient. Feral needs to break even/make some profit
out of this releases. Would you spend 25 Euros for a 10 year-old niche game?

I'm not sure the recent Settlers games will run on a GMA. I have Settlers 6 and it's pretty graphical, although maybe 4 and 5 are not so much.

(Settlers 3 was never on the Mac, was it? That was my first Settlers game.)

I'm actually TOO good at both TMFPPG and Fable:TLC.

There are a few old PC games that we never got that I would still quite like to play and a Mac OS X native application would be preferable to WINE or virtualization. A few examples off the top of my head:

1) Max Payne 2 (a UB of the first game would be nice but given that I don't think the port was done by one of Feral's regulars and I think it was handled by different distributors in different territories I'd imagine the legal work probably prevents it)

2) Tomb raider Legend (the only one to skip the Mac)

3) Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight

4) Grand Prix Legends

5) F.E.A.R - mainly because it was from the same company as NOLF 1 & 2 and they were excellent.

If it would be possible to acquire the licences, I'd like to see OS X ports of Unreal, Unreal Tournament, and Deus Ex. Obviously since these were previously published for OS 9 this may be easier said than done. Mac versions of Command & Conquer, and/or Red Alert, would be nice too.

Moving forwards a few years, I certainly think Serious Sam would do well on the Mac. Total Annihilation remains the RTS Of Champions™.

Psychonauts.

Lego Star Wars: The Complete Fire Trucking Game as Released for XBox 360 and PS3: Not the First Half-Assed Attempt at a Co-Op Camera that Spawns You on (off) Cliffs: And Not the One that's Missing Lots of Levels, Vehicles, and Characters: How Hard is it to Do it Right? JHT-DC.

Edit: They might have to shorten the title though. Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga sounds like it might pass a focus group.

Although I suspect all of these are too old to make the "classic games" list Feral is talking about:

Battlezone Gold
Jane's Longbow Gold or Anthology
NFS: Porsche Unleashed
Road Rash 3d
Red Baron 3d
Star Wars Simulation trilogy
Terra Nova
Wing Commander: Prophecy

Oh yes Company of Heroes + expansion would be great!
I doubt they can do any Star Wars games. Plus this is about full games not ports which usually the original publisher still has the license. :glare:
Marvel Ultimate Alliance is a great game. Not to mention they are already making a sequel to it. Then X-Men Legends II was out for PC before that.
Well since they've done Pirates! How about .... http://www.2kgames.c.../railroads.html ?

Oh, yes, bring on PSYCHONAUTS – freakin' awesome!

I'm not sure about LSW: The Complete Saga. One one hand, it's great, on the other: Why not try something new,
like Lego Indiana Jones or Lego Batman? Indy for me, definitely. :D

Outcast as in the Infogrames game? (*checks* - Yep) That'd be awesome. I was hooked on that game - installed it recently under Windows and the max resolution is depressingly low.

Deus Ex isn't going to happen. Aspyr already have the porting license, and may or may not update it to OSX one day.

But max Resolution is 512x384 and a hacked one with 640x480, so i don't expect a port giving higher resolutions, because the gamefiles name like: presentation512, presentation320 etc.
but it looks extremly good if you turn on all features of the engine. reflecting water, realistic weather effects, motion blur, bumpmapping, etc. fantasic and all in software, no 3d-hardware-accelleration, only a potent cpu und erverything is fine. today with core2duo this one would be absolute fantastic with 720p res. perhaps it will be re-released with a realtime-raytracer engine, who knows.

it is on position 16 of the mtv-gaming reference-list FOR ALL MACHINES INCLUDING CONSOLES of all time!!!

The only real game belgium ever produced. Oh and Space Rangers 2 is great too, for a Feral game.

Who knows, since I'm going to be a beta tester for them, maybe I can make some remarks to the team?

I didn't mention Lego Indy or Lego Batman as they are both recent games - rather than "Legends"

I also have both games on my "must try to play someday" list as both the Lego Star Wars games were great fun. Feral did a great job with the second one in my opinion so I'd like to see them keep the series. The only worry is I think the developer (TT) was recently purchased by Warner Bros and I don't know if that will be a benefit or hindrance to licensing a Mac port.
