I know you folks probably aren't terribly concerned, but iTunes 8 runs very well in Windows compared to iTunes 7.  Things scroll smoothly and Coverflow moves nicely.  While iTunes has run like buttah in OS X, in Windows it's been hard to tolerate.  Unfortunately, Windows Media Player doesn't hold a candle to iTunes content and versatility . . .  and while we're at it, neither does the Zune software.

My only complaint is that the Genius doesn't seem to recognize most of my music that's been burned from CD or from somewhat obscure sources (games).  Some are not so much.  Basshunter, Carmina Burana and Falling You.  All of which can be obtained on the iTunes store (although that's not where I got them from) . . . all with proper tag information included in the 'info' area.  Genius can't seem to make a playlist from them or with them.  That feature was one I was really excited about.  Oh well...  back to my old standby playlist / album method of music navication.  I hope the genius is improved in the future though.

I read this and went into iTunes to check it out.  Very cool effects.  This must be what Dr. Manhattan sees when he is doing metallurgical analysis at the atomic level.

It's looking good, a half-step up from iTunes 7.

Gosh it's been a while... Sold the Green Monster and the iPad for a truly amazing new beast.

The visualizer can be controlled by you the listener!
just press 'M', 'F', and 'L' while in the visualiser and you can change how it works, pausing it, moving the camera and halting the camera. Its pretty sweet to have this element of control.

Am I imagining it, or have the MiniPlayer menu item and keyboard shortcut gone missing? Clicking maximise still works (), but I *know* there was a shortcut before.

A reasonably large number of my songs crash iTunes when I select them with Genius enabled.

So Cmd+M for you is MiniPlayer, not Minimise to Dock?

I thought you meant to change tracks. Did cmd-m ever do that?

It minimizes every other app. Having keyboard shortcuts to do different than expected things is bad form. IMO, if it did used to do that, then it was sloppy of Apple.

I looked around the intertubez, and it seemed that that was the old shortcut. There definitely was one, and there was a menu item, but both appear to have vanished.

I have not downloaded it, but from what I have read, the visualaliser is better than before, but nothing else is really better. I could not care less for most of what the new iTunes is, I only use one view for when I am listening to music, and I do not think it is a good idea to change preference stuff around. Another thing is this whole Genre thing, I have found having Genres in my library completely useless, when iTunes does not mistake one genre for another, the is no genre present for the track(s).  Like it has been sometimes said:

I've found 2 more annoyances :)

1) Restoring from miniplayer seems to not give iTunes focus, which means it restores behind my current window
2) There's a bug with shuffle and playlists where iTunes will stop after 1 song. I have to disable and enable shuffle to fix it :(
