I'm looking at getting Vista; but the Bootcamp assistant wont burn a Drivers disk anymore. (it says to insert the OSX DVD); when i did this, windows doesnt even see any files at all on the disc. (i just had to re-install XP, since my legit copy of NWN2 apparently gave me a virus... i'm a little peeved) So i installed the old drivers for my MacPro from the old Bootcamp Beta disc i burned and updated them via software update.
I'm going to be a complete nuke and pave if/when i get Vista, so ill need to be able to put the drivers in for the Hardware in the MacPro, but where do i find them if Bootcamp wont make me a CD anymore?
Any chance of the old XP drivers working, at least long enough for Software Update (Windows) to get running and download the correct ones?
Thanks for your help!

32 or 64 bit? For 32 bit, they should be right on the Leopard disc, for 64 bit, you actually need to find a torrent and download them that way because for some reason, Apple hasn't released them into the wild yet. I've had no driver issues with Vista x64, and I really only needed Apple drivers for the eject key on the keyboard.

the entire reason for going to Vista was for 64-bit (so i can actually use all of the RAM i have in here); i found the drivers in the usual places.

I did it that way as well, for the same reason. The only point of all this aggravation is to go 64-bit. And I must say, I've had no problems at all since the installation and much gaming goodness.

unfortunately, it seems the only way i'm going to aquire Vista64 is to purchase it myself (which i simply dont have the money for); my Aunt and Uncle, who i normally get my OSX upgrades from (they have 4 OSX machines and a 5 user liscensce, and since i do work for them intermittently, its useful), also had a multi-liscense for Vista, which my aunt uses in her accounting business. Unfortunately, its 32-bit Vista.
so it looks like that will have to wait.
Question, if anyone knows. If i install Vista32 right now, and later install Vista64, can i simply upgrade or am i looking at another nuke-and-pave?

Nuke and pave. It's a totally different version of Windows.

OK. Just saw a discussion over on the Apple forums: Vista 64 media which got me kind of confused on this issue. I'm running Vista Home Premium 64(which seems to be 64-bit from what the machine tells me), but on this thread it states that only Vista Ultimate is 64-bit, unless you pay extra for an add-on that can be bought from M$. Explain?

Huh?
Ultimate comes in 32-bit and 64-bit flavors. Personally, I have both versions of Business Edition. It's been a while since I've checked, but I think that there's a way to get a free (or perhaps there's a token fee) copy of the 32-bit/64-bit version of Vista if you already own a 32-bit/64-bit version.

The license key works for the 32 and 64 bit versions. They just ship the 32 bit version by default for everything but Ultimate. You can get the 64 bit discs from Microsoft by following these instructions.
Edit:And jgwdoc, did you get an OEM license? When you order those, you get to pick the version on the disc.

Yes, I did get the OEM 64 bit version. Thanks, that clears it up. I couldn't figure out what in the world they were talking about, since everything in my system kept reporting back at 64-bit.
