With the new update (Quake 4 1.4.2), and the new
Q4max release
we can finally play Mac Q4 multiplayer maps against rather challenging bots
(of course some of you may have found a way to do this previously, but I never could since the SAbot and Oakbot
never worked on the Mac):D Although the Q4max info says that they have issues with listenservers in general (and Macs specifically),
I have had no such issues. So If you travel (like I do), or just want to work on skills, grab the mod and the update.
I actually have to run the bots at embarrassingly low skill levels, though you all may have better luck.
Just be sure to get the AAS BotFiles so the bots will load (made that mistake). Hope this helps someone:)

You are probably better off with the good old Quake 3 with its built-in bot support here – considering Quake Live basically is Quake 3.

What? Now why would that happen QuantaCat? Don't they like you?

By the way, could someone tell me how the bots are in difficulty and stupidness, I am interested in that (the crappiness of the AI).

Well, I was excited when I found this in a search, and I got Q4Max.

Not excited anymore, these bots are bullpopsnizzle. You can fire a plasma stream at them and they'll effortlessly weave between all the shots while having their gun locked on you no matter what you do to dodge. Pretty much everything but high damage hitscan weapons are useless, because they'll dodge everything else effortlessly.

Given I can absolutely mop up human players in UT, Halo, and COD, I don't think I'm exactly bad, either. These fire truckers are worse than UT bots on Godlike. Are there any Q4 bots that are actually fun to play against, or just ones that exist to hammer home how much faster a computer's reflexes are than a human's?

EDIT: Wait, do I understand correctly that difficulty can be toggled? How? Went through the data files and I don't see anything...

When there's a multiplayer version, I'm going to be on Frost's team. Well, except he doesn't seem to actually need a team...I mean, what's the point? "Hey look, it's Frost and His Merry Gang of Useless Hangers-On!" Or something.

To adjust the bots' skill level, you can adjust bot_skill, which ranges from 1 to 5. This cvar affects how accurate the bots are when firing. Also, at lower levels the bots disable some of their advanced skills, like dodging and item timing.

UT bots on Godlike were pretty easy once one had warmed up a little.

Hey did you get em running? I just migrated to a new MacPro and my Q4 went haywire. Just did a clean install and a clean install of the mod and it seems to work better than before. What I don't like is the way that the bots (mostly when they aren't allowed to play at their apparent AIMBOT normal skill) do this bizarre dance thing (like when agents take over bodies in the Matrix....lol). But hey it was free :D

I just made some little ".cfg" files for bot amount and their skill level, set up the listen server without bots, enter then execute a given ".cfg" (like "config2.cfg" which is- set bot_minplayers 2, set bot_skill 2). Not a single glitch with this method, just the funny dance thing when they get frustrated when they cant headshot me every 2 seconds.....lol
