I finished Batman: Arkham City last night (well, at least the main story line – I still have a couple of side missions to do) and, damn, that game is awesome. Definitely a close contestant with Portal 2 for "Best Game of 2011".

They took everything that was already great about Arkham Asylum and expanded it just right: a larger area to explore, more diverse enemies, more cool combo moves, more gadgets to play around with. The scenery looks great and created with an incredible amount of detail. The plot is admittedly somewhat contrived and incoherent, and some of the twists don't really make sense, the cut scenes are nevertheless impressively written, superbly acted (the voice acting is on a constantly high level even in the German version, which is rare enough) and stocked with great dialogue and one-liners. And having the Joker

;)

I'm already looking forward to the inevitable sequel (for which there are more than enough hooks).

Been giving Gran Turismo 5 an absolute pounding this year. It's almost all that I've played!

Got into a very good rhythm, in order to finally get gold in all of the licenses. I've improved in a few Special Events, to get it down to just the Vettel X2010, and one tricky event, and I'm not too far off getting to level 40, so I can do Nurburgring 24h!
Through all of that, I've been raking in cash, and buying all the individual cars I possibly can, and am up to 930, nearly all distinct.

I think I might get the Platinum for this, maybe. I've been having lots of fun.

If you get golds with the X2010 without buying and using a wheel, I will be in absolute awe. I gave up even on getting silver with a controller. The precision control just is not there. Same goes for the AMG Driving Academy. Got mostly golds, but I CANNOT get better than silver on a couple of them.

In other news, it's been chopper-mania over here. First Choplifter HD, which I LOVE (being an oldschool Choplifter fan). I ended up being the first person in the world to beat it on PS3. I know because the lead designer on the game contacted me and told me! Apparently there was a contest for doing so, and the winner gets all the upcoming DLC for free. I didn't even know until he told me, I just played it for fun!

Stepped it up from arcade to simulator a couple days ago as well when an insanely late (but insanely great) Christmas present finally arrived: Apache: Air Assault. I cannot believe I didn't get the game when it was new in 2010. I LOVE this! Finished the Afghanistan (I mean, uh, "Tazirstan") campaign the night before last, finished the Somalia (I mean, uh, "Lualia") campaign last night, and it's on to Central America tonight for the final leg.

Haven't had this much fun since I got Feral's Mac port of Enemy Engaged: Comanche vs. Hokum. Kickass.

Oh, I've had a wheel almost since launch... I wasn't very good for a long, long time, so was using the pad 90% of the time, almost. Recently started using it a lot more, though, and it's just completely transformed the game for me.

I did the Monza Vettel challenge today, managing to get the gold after about an hour of trying. Couldn't manage the same on Suzuka, but I'll just give it a while, and I'll zone in on it, I'm sure.

After giving up for the day, I loaded up Circuit de la Sarthe with my Peugeot 908 HDi FAP and just went around there for a bit of fun. I adore that track, and I adore that car. It's just so nice to, comparatively, be taking it really easy, never pushing too hard, and still get some solid lap times. I'm planning on starting a 24h Le Mans run in the 908 in a few days time, so I just want to get settled with the car, which was giving me a little trouble until I got a hang of corner speeds and stole some set up tips.

Ohh, good on ya. I still REALLY need to get a wheel one day for GT. If only the prices were a bit lower. I played with a friend's Logitech G27 about a year ago and I was blown away how much my lap times improved on tracks where I previously thought I was good.

Far as driving the X2010, on Suzuka I actually managed to get really close to the silver using just a controller. Oddly enough, that's supposed to the be the hardest of the three, but I found it infinitely easier than Nürburgring GP/F.

Best tips I can give for it (if you haven't already figured them out) is even though it looks like you can't, you can go balls out on the accelerator clear from the hairpin to that lazy left with the sand trap without losing control, and once out of the sandy turn and on the big straightaway, you can again hammer it all the way down the straight and even through the sharp left to the shorter straight without even letting up on the accelerator. Just time the hard left at the turn correctly and the little bit of bank on that turn is enough to keep traction even with the accelerator still at 100%. Shaved a couple seconds off my time easily once I figured those out. Same story on the long, easy left curve following the snakey portion. Accelerator all the way down the entire way, and when you make the sharp right, again, there's enough bank that if you let up on the accelerator and brake just a tad, then hit a hard right you'll fly onto the correct direction faster than you can even see yourself doing it. Finally, the initial two turns: if you don't take the first right all out but rather hold back just a tad, you can accelerate your way through the second right much faster than usual and gain another full second almost.

And I just realized I pretty much gave tips from the end of the course working back to the beginning instead of correct order, but oh well, HEH.

Haha! Back to front!

Yeah, I'm getting close. Down to a 2:14.7 at my best, so I need to drop 2 seconds, which is just about timing and fear... I've got the driving line on to help me with spotting my braking points.

Even so, it's like trying to control a drunk Superman, whilst also drunk...

EDIT: Oh yeah, steering wheel. I've just got the basic Driving Force GT. It was, I think, £80 when I bought it, but I don't know where it's priced over in the US... It's very good, but I can imagine just how much better the G25 would be, let alone the new crazy Thrustmaster wheel!

Yeah! Pretty much!

Actually, I've really got the hang of it over the weekend. I was able to get a good amount of time in on Sunday, and in tandem with turning off Traction Control, dragged my time down from a 2:12.4 to a 2:11.4 very quickly... Silver trophy!

Then further still to a 2:10.8! Just under a second off where I need to be.

This will be done!

Played GT5 one year ago, and I had issues deleting the space it took on my harddrive to play other games. Still own a 60 GB model, cause I play ps2 games.

The demo for Twisted Metal is pretty good, I hated how whenever I tried to play online it would disconnect or freeze my playstation 3. Thankfully today, I was able to get into some deathmatch sessions without those problems. Overall, I'm not happy about the GamePass method popping up in first party titles.

Could always go for a hard drive upgrade. I've got the original 60GB as well for the same reason, but I put a 500GB in it. Installation is easy enough for a caveman, and these days even a 320GB is only a tad more than the price of one game if you shop around.

And yes, that GamePass bullpopsnizzle fraking sucks and every developer who uses it should be flogged. Seriously.

Due to flooding to Thailand (either that or Taiwan), where most of the world's hard drives's are made. Hard drives have increased massively in price. Your looking at $100+ for a laptop drive like that. Cheapest I can get a 500 GB Desktop Hard drive is for $85 right now.

What's the big deal with the GamePass stuff?? If you buy your game new it doesn't effect you at all.

Holy balls, you're not kidding! I hadn't shopped for drives in a while... bought that 500GB for $52 including shipping from NewEgg in October. Now that won't even get you 250GB. Good grief!

And I usually don't buy console games new unless I really, really want them RFN since a whole 2 months yields most games new or like new on eBay for half price. Slapping me (and people like me) with a $10 used tax or the game is partially crippled is bullpopsnizzle and rather than encouraging me to buy new more often, I'm more likely to just never buy the game at all if it didn't meet "buy new" criteria to begin with.

If you can wait, and live in a land that isn't obsessed with RRP (The UK isn't, thank heavens), then you'll find games drop price exceedingly fast these days. Especially over Christmas.

I picked up Rage for £10 over Christmas, Deus Ex was also down to £10, but hovered closer to £20 for the few months before. Battlefield 3 regularly approaches £20... The list goes on and on.

Very few games retain value anymore.

I didn't play uncharted 3 yet because of the gamepass method. What would that mean though for single player games and trophies? Or does that only apply for multiplayer? Cause I haven't really played other games recently on playstation 3 besides new king of fighters demo.

BTW, did you play the twisted metal demo yet? Feels more control friendly then twisted metal black, but still liked that installment more then the others.

On a side note, played twisted metal offline.

Couldn't resist getting RE: Operation Raccoon City despite the negative reviews, and discovered it's actually fun in a crazy, sloppy-controlled zombie-blasting sort of way. What really sold me the final bit of the way is getting to take full control of my Resident Evil alter-ego for the first time since RE4. Took him online and the first Heroes match I played, got just shy of 100 kills (mostly zombies, I'll admit, but there was no shortage of player-controlled opposing heroes and player-controlled Spec Ops in that count), zero deaths, only Hero character still standing at the end of the round. Can't touch this! I'll be playing more of that.

Game is really, really, really begging for a coop survival mode against zombies though, and I'm astonished none of the devs thought of that. You can sorta cheat your way to it by organizing a private game and agreeing that everybody works together against zombies, but even so the zombie count is too low to be more than a light challenge on any particular map. It's a shame because a couple times for whatever reason, my cousin and I got bum rushed by gigantic hordes of zombies while playing not-really-coop coop in a private versus match and had to fight a retreating gun battle blasting everything we had into them to hold them off, polished off by an attack by a Tyrant. Shows what coop mode could have been if the developers had thought that far.
