Well, it seems GopherMods no longer does reballs. A pity, since it seems they had nothing but satisfied customers. Guess they couldn't keep it economical or something.

Off to Sony the PS3 goes...
Cypher (PowerMac G5 Quad) – 2x2.5 GHz PPC 970MP / 16GB ECC RAM / 1TB WDC Velociraptor, 2TB STX Constellation ES.2 / QuadroFX 4500 512MB

Antimony (PowerBook G4 Titanium) – 1.0 GHz PPC 7455 / 1GB RAM / 480GB OWC Mercury SSD / Radeon 9000 64MB

Dam, maybe they ran outta supplies. I imagine there was only a limited supply of motherboards and such to go into those original PS3's

This just gets better and better. The Slim I bought when I thought I was gonna get a reball was advertised as a current model 160GB. I got an old discontinued 120GB. Contacted the seller, offered solutions. Got a 2 sentence nonresponse. Contacted her again, and she ignored me. Gave her five days to respond, then opened a dispute. Oh, suddenly there she is!

Now the seller wants to fight about it.

Okay bitch, let's fight about it.

She refused to see it my way, so I helped Warren from eBay to see it my way, and I got a prepaid shipping label as a courtesy from eBay. The PS3 goes back to her, eBay refunds me the original price plus original shipping as soon as UPS shows it delivered, and charges her for the amount. For her troubles, her 2003 dated account with 100% positive feedback will no longer be 100% (it takes a lot to get negative feedback out of me, and she worked hard to earn it), and she may well face suspension.

The tail end of the dispute:

Quote

Seller:
i do not know what pictures you would send me. That proves nothing. This is exactly why I quit talking to you in the first place. I could tell I would get nowhere and I am not the arguing kind of person. I will offer to pay you for shipping the item and for you seller charges and I think $20 should cover that. I know what I sold you and I know what you can get for it. That is my offer. I do not want to go back and forth with you anymore.

captfrost:
Oh, so first by asking for a return I was trying to extort you and get something for nothing, and now I'm the argumentative type so that's why you quit talking to me (hint: you never started until I opened a dispute and forced you to). And pictures plainly showing it's a 120GB CECH-2000A model and not what it was advertised as would prove nothing because you "know what you sold" me? This is outrageous considering it's pretty plain from previous communications that all I ever asked for was to return it since you sent me a different model than you advertised. Instead I get ignored, then when I force you to respond I get ad hominem attacks and finally an offer of $20 to resell your incorrectly described PS3 for you. I have a better idea, you refund me my $xxx.xx and I send your PS3 back to you. I've been on here for 12 years and this is the first time I've gotten the wrong model product and the seller has been anything but polite and happy to do a return. You're right, we're done here.

You have escalated the case to eBay Customer Support.
Jul 16, 2012 at 5:28 PM

eBay Customer Support will get back to you within 72 hours.
3 hours later I had a return shipping label. :)

Moral: If you advertise something as one thing, ship a person something else, and they notice, the smart thing to do is take it back and refund them, not try to verbally fence with them until they decide it's not worth the trouble and let you get away with it. Especially if they're clearly an obnoxious bastard like yours truly who counts any amount of time and effort expended on kicking your ass until you capitulate as time well-spent.

Well, it worked out in the end. I'm in the middle of packing up the PS3 Slim to ship back, and the doorbell rings and there's the package from Sony in Laredo, TX with my brand new (I guess the rumors of refurbs were wrong) CECH-A01 60GB, so I won't be a second without a PS3.

Oh, I didn't spot that you'd got this all nicely resolved. That's awesome :)
I hope the data loss isn't too bad...

I've been playing BF3 again lately, both on PC and on PS3. I'm merely OK when it comes to air vehicles, and last night I butted heads with a guy that could take me out, despite me turning the tightest circle I possibly could, and watching him on the radar he wasn't much tighter... So clearly I"m missing something. Is there another flight sim game you think I could train a bit with, to wean myself off the heat seekers? Was the Top Gun PSN game good?

Despite sucking in the jets, I had one hell of a time in the attack helicopters. Same match, and the enemy team had stolen one of our jets on Caspian Border, so I was in the Havoc with a buddy, going toe to toe with THREE jets and their own attack chopper! We had a little help from the ground, but we were dodging planes, skipping around unguided missiles, and generally kicking arse for a brief few moments!

I think, combined with the ground missiles we took out two jets and two choppers during that life. Was. Awesome.

Gutted I didn't have my little capture box plugged in.  :(

Naughty Dog released a massive new Uncarted 3 Patch today. Amongst other changes including a new tournament system, they've tried to neuter the GMAL again, fingers crossed it actually works this time!

That UC3 patch is a bit meh... Noticed quite a few more bugs popping up, the tournament system is a fairly lame excuse for microtransactions, and a few other little things.

On the plus side, the M9's higher rate of fire perk is now utterly beastly. The only problem is that it runs out of bullets too quickly! My favourite gun to pick up by miles. (Normally I'm running around with a base M9 and a pair of handicaps, so grabbing this über-weapon is pretty sweet)

So... It kind of evens out.

I'm more looking forward to the fresh Lab content, some of which sounds crazy.

Let me know when you're BF3-ing it up!

I've just moved into legacy 3 so i've gotta work my way back up to the M( (also my favourite). I had two rounds this morning, not really sure what the tournament system actually means. It is quite buggy i'd agree, i especially had problems with latency and players popping up out of the blue, had a few episodes where i gained kills from 1 shot etc.

Neutering the GMAL is the best decision ever though, I'm so thankful for that, i just hope we don't see a new OP blaster become apparent after this, although I have a feeling everyone is going to move to the M9 now. I've been using the M9 with the Uzi (whatever they call it) for a while now, combine it with weapon expert and you've got a not-stop blindfire frenzy at your disposal.

I'm starting to think yes. The GPU on a MacBook Pro (not the one in my profile, thank God) died and another machine's sleep issues that I thought I had cured returned, both of them within 2 hours of the new PS3 getting the YLOD. Not to mention my G5 started having random kernel panics, which I tracked down to a RAM module going bad (see thread in Mac Hardware).

I'm half-seriously wondering if I got blasted by a solar flare this weekend what with all the crazy sun activity lately. I need to put a faraday rollcage in my Charger before it dies next and I have to walk around town.

there was recall in the mobo in your MacBook Pro. You can most likely get it replaced for free.
