Blizzard Entertainment has updated its accounts section with an option for registered users to access a digital download version of Diablo II and its expansion, Lord of Destruction. To download players must enter their official CD keys. Warcraft III and StarCraft are also available for download.

1) Your Blizzard Account is now the main place for you to enter Blizzard's Beta-Test Eligibility Lists. So make sure you setup an account and tick the box inside your Email settings to enter yourself into the Blizzard Beta Lottery.

2) A major new function now available is the ability to download copies of Blizzard games that you have previously purchased. You need to log into your account page and then go to the Games tab. Inside you'll be able to input the CD-Keys from StarCraft, StarCraft Battlechest, StarCraft Anthology, Warcraft III, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, Warcraft Battlechest, Diablo II, Diablo II: Lord of Destruction, Diablo II Battlechest or World of WarCraft, though WoW client downloads are still handled through the WoW website.

Has anyone tried this with Diablo II LoD?

When I do the digital download I get one of the torrent style downloads, I do that and I end up with an installer app (also an installer exe oddly enough) and one giant MPQ file. But when I run the installer it doesn't install!  Three buttons "Play..." "View the manual" "Customer Support"  but no option to actually install.

Any ideas?

I also found the whole process kinda buggy in Safari, right from trying to enter my serials. I looked like they would submit but the confirmation email never arrived. I used Firefox 3 and no problem. Just FYI.

I found out the problem - I had D2 already installed - I wanted to install a "clean" version using the digital download but it won't let you install the game if you already have it installed. Instead it let's you play and launches the game you already have installed. And due to the bug between 10.5.4 and D2 it won't launch so the "installer" just sits there as if nothing happened.

I deleted my existing D2 folder (and preference file for good measure) and then the D2 digital download installed just fine. I then installed the D2 LoD digital download and it too was fine. Of course I can't play when I'm running 10.5.4 until Apple fixes the 8800 driver. But at least i got the digital download working.
