Actually, todays update of the teaser includes a rune from Diablo... AND, if you look in the CSS file, there are some hidden clues that everyone thinks points to D3!

It always seemed to me like World of Warcraft WAS Diablo 3.  All of the MMORPG innovations you find in WoW seem to have been in rudimentary form in Diablo 2's online form, and it seems like WoW contains all of the things that Blizzard wish they could have done in D2.

I *LOVE* Diablo 2 but I don't see the point of yet another fantasy-based MMORPG.

With our luck it'll be a cell-phone version of WoW.  So many of the job ads Blizzard has posted over the past few years have been for mobile content developers, they've gotta be paying them to do SOMETHING.

WOW is nothing like Diablo for me. But then again, for me Diablo is the dark Diablo I, and not the popish Diablo II...

Diablo is in the Rogue/Nethack/Moria/Angband vein, isn't it? (Much more modern of course.)

Looks like we're gonna have to wait till Friday or Saturday till we know what EXACTLY this is. I'm 100% sure that this is
Diablo related. If you look at the page now we can see the symbols for the runes "Shael" And "Hel" which might be hinting at some sentence such as "Shall hell __ __ __."

I guess what I meant is that all of the community features like trading and worldwide events and so on that are in WoW were all in some rudimentary form in D2 or very much wished for.  The fundamental mechanic of grinding, killing, collecting, leveling is the same, only WoW is obviously much more sophisticated.  I agree that the feel is different, and I prefer the grittiness and doom-laden look of D2 to the candy-colored Warcraft look.

But the two franchises are similar enough that I can't imagine Blizzard putting out an MMORPG version of Diablo*, which would compete for the same audience as WoW. On the other hand, I don't own a skajillion-dollar game company, so who cares what I think?

*And why would they put out a version of Diablo that wasn't an MMORPG?

And what do you have against the pope?

I'm absolutely not fussed what they're up to, but out of interest, do these images mean anything to anyone?

Those appear to be the upper right (Tundra) and bottom left (Cavern) parts of a larger picture. Looks a bit like the Grinch in purple.

The url for the images may be a hint as well. For the folder name "232309", if you isolate the numbers and turn them into letters you get 23=W, 23=W, 09=I, which stands for World Wide Invitational, the event Blizzard is holding on the weekend. Then if you look at the numbers for the actual jpg file we so far have 04=D and 15=0. Every day Blizzard is posting a new image. People on the net are predicting the next images will have the numbers 09=I, 01=A, 02=B, and 12=L to spell DIABLO. We'll see what we have tomorrow.

But yes, it will defenitely NOT be Diablo 3.

Like someone said in this thread: on the day they announced WoW, they had a Starcraft 2 scheme.

Could be anything. On day 3, they now have a Warcraft, Diablo and Starcraft reference.

Theres really only the main theme to go on - Ice, tundra, cavern. - And it still screams DIII.
"They're everywhere!" -And now, time for some Legend of Zelda.

There's also another one of those 'rune' jobbies you crazy people are talking about.

So by that logic, the icy, WoW-esque teaser is totally Diablo!

Or a match-3 game set in the Old West.

Or a pirate-themed stacking block game.

Or a game where you have to manage an aerobics studio or a dog grooming shop (This one will be sold at the Mac Game store.)

So, new splash page. The new 'rune' is apparently the Protoss symbol, so basically they are telling us nothing. Plus apparently the new image's number is 23, or 'w', so this is either a very creative spelling of 'Diablo', or that's way off-base as well.

Mebbe they are showing us symbols from each of their big game franchises because they're about to announce a totally new game! With a new setting! So the ice is like hell freezing over, because Blizzard is trying something new!

Anyway, I kind of hope it's not Diablo 3, because the world doesn't need another boring clickfest, in my not-so-humble opinion.

Well, according to this, we can actually expect something new and not just that long known WoW expansion crap.
