Ok, so I recently installed Ubuntu 8.04 "Hardy Heron" on my MBP as a dual-boot option using rEFIt. However, once I was within the Ubuntu OS I was unable to get my Wi-fi to work which made it practicaly useless. Now it's eating up 16 GB of my hardrive which I really need now. I've tried to erase it using Disk Utility but with no success. It just sort of freezes up and doesn't do anything.

Here's the info from Partition Inspector:

Try unplugging everything (peripherals) you don't need.
Zap the PRAM and boot with your install DVD to run disk utility.

If that doesn't work, boot the Ubuntu disc and use gparted to reformat the drive as FAT32. You should then be able to use the Boot Camp assistant to combine the two partitions.

Edit: You'll need to combine all the partitions you made for Linux into one FAT32 partition.

How do I combine the Linux partitions? Everytime I do anything with Disk Utility it simply makes the volume completely free space and I can't get rid of of the partition itself. And it won't let me mount the Linux Swap partition. And how do I zap the PRAM? And why do I need to use the Leopard install disk can't I simply run the program from within Mac OSX? THanks for helping me kill Ubuntu.

Use gparted on the Ubuntu live cd to do this.

I know this is kind of old but I have finally killed Ubuntu using the Partition Editor on the live CD. The only thing is that now I have 16 gb of "Unallocated" space on my hard drive. However using Disk Utility whenever I try to drag the divider over the free space it processes for about 3 minutes and then comes up with the error:

Partition failed with the error:

Filesystem verify or repair failed.

Could you guys tell me how to eat up the unallocated space?

That'll show you for using Linux. Remember, Linux of any flavor hates your soul, your unborn children and snow cones. You may want to try another formatting utility. Perhaps the Winders Installation CD? That seems have little quarrel with formatting most things Open-sourced, then use the bootcamp partition manager to reintegrate the 16 GB with the rest of your HFS+ partition.

As they say, Linux is only free if you consider your time worthless.

If you're in Leopard, have you tried the Boot Camp Assistant?
