This is probably a long shot, but keeping my fingers crossed. On my old G4 I used to have a game that allowed you to produce and market your own movie. Basically this focused on managing a budget, but included the ability to pick actors and a director. The end goal was to get your movie to rank in amongst the other top ten well known, best selling movies. The game used no images, relying only on text, but was still very well done and surprisingly fun to play. I cannot remember whether the game was built for OS9 or OSX. If anybody has any info or even recommendations on new similar games, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

The Movies sounds very, VERY similar, although it is entirely graphical. Can't help with your other game.

I remember that one. It's not The Movies - much older, definitely pre-OS X. You could pick which actors, special effects studios etc. to hire, and different ad budgets, and it told you how your movie was doing with each week released. I don't remember the name though.

Those text games put me to sleep really quick. Oh, there's maybe 2 minutes of anticipation, and from there it goes
downhill.
I think a lot of text-only games out there. Not sure where I saw them last.

The one I'm thinking of wasn't text-only in a DOS text adventure sense. It had a GUI, but was reminiscent of some sort of office-type program.

Interesting. I seem to recall somethings like that too. I think the Apple II had some things like that when I was in Jr. High. It had tons of fun things to do, and I never had enough time in school.

I had the ol' tape player cassettes programs too, like Don Qioute.
Anyone remember "Bushido" and this other far-out game where you blasted little blocks and made your
enemy fall in them? It was kinda like a giant BOOM maze. (DOS)

I actually know what you're talking about - I played for a while as a fun little diversion back on my Performa running OS 8. I remember it as a shareware game I got off of a MacAddict (or perhaps MacFormat?) CD, actually.

Essentially, the way the game worked was that you set budgets for your movie, putting a certain amount of money into marketing, and what not, and then released it to the masses. As the weeks would go by, your score would be determined by how much of a net profit (or loss!) you ended up with. It was totally non-graphical, with gameplay akin to something like Dope Wars.

I remember this game so well because I actually made a Duke Nukem movie with this game and actually ended up laughing so much, seeing it totally tank at the box office. Sadly, I don't remember what this game was called - it's not listed in MacUpdate or VersionTracker's OS 9/Classic indices.

Speaking of The Movies, is the expansion out yet? Feral's site says it's coming, but Amazon has a few people selling the Mac expansion. The fact that Amazon themselves doesn't have it in stock leads me to believe those people aren't really selling the Mac version :-/.

I have a sneaking suspicion that it's out but not in France, which the website suggests but not very clearly - I could easily be wrong though. Maybe check with Feral?

You need a catchier slogan. "Mac Game Store is Mac Games, plus 'tore'! Also there's a space! And the 's' is capitalized!" Please pay me 5 million dollars for that, thanks. It's called "strategy boutique branding" or something. All I know is that you get to charge insane amounts of money for it.
