Out now: http://www.tuaw.com/...ion-2-0-beta-1/

Adds support for DirectX 9.0 Shader Model 2, seems to support more games and have less graphical glitches with ones that worked before. Don't have many games installed but tried Simon the Sorcerer 4 and Sam N Max season 2 ep 2. Simon 4 is unplayable because it's too slow but otherwise runs excluding small graphic glitches. Sam N Max games run perfectly and all the old graphic gliteches in version 1.1.x seem to be gone.

S&M is great. I would love to play with it.

The new season, that is.

That reminds me, they did a questionnaire some time ago, in exchange for a free first episode (the one that is free to watch on their website or somesuch, the christmas episode)
on the "further remarks" thing, I said that they should make a mac version, since the market would be great for a game like that right now. It's pseudo casual, and it's an adventure! it would sell big, if people didn't bootcamp it already. (or parallels)

I tried S&M, but there was some sizing issues. It was too big for me. Luckily, after a few tries, I found the right size for me and it works great!

no, seriously, it defaulted to 1920x1080 for some bizarre reason... and kept quitting, but eventually, through a small amount of persistence, I managed to knock it down to 1280x720 with low quality graphics and it worked like a charm with no real performance issues other than a tiny bit of lag occasionally and a hyper sensitive mouse.

Youll probably want to install SMCfancontrol and knock the fan speed right up to maximum to try and keep your computer cool. The load on the CPU is huge and Apple's standard fan control settings dont match up very well to the sudden spikes (ie, they dont change at all really).

If they released S&M for OSX, then Id buy everything all over again.

no no. its fine in windows (obviously), but in older versions of fusion, it couldnt render text properly and the shaders were pretty insane too. Now in 2.0 beta it works fine its just that it decided to go a bit wonky with regards to the resolutions (ie, choosing the biggest there was), which took a while for me to work around. aside from that its worked fine.

oh, I did have it overheat my MBP though. By which I mean that it started to downclock the CPU and GPU as much as possible, which caused the frame rate to plummet and textures to disappear etc. etc. I doubt its helped by the rather summery weather that weve got in the UK right now. But fusion was pretty much (sam &) maxing out the CPU for the entire time, and I had the fans running on full whack.

Beta 2 is out:

http://www.vmware.co...nt/beta/fusion/

Says that it has Gears of War support but it doesn't work for me only shows a blank screen when starting the game. Menus work okay thought. Some games work better but it's not flawless yet (except for Sam n Max of course :))

I found that after playing S&M for about half hour is beta 1 the computer would really start to throttle back on the CPU and GPU speed for reasons of heat...
Ill grab beta 2 when I get my MBP back.

Using VMWF 2.0 b2 Unreal Tournament (the original) started up but my input was all screwed up. This didn't happen on the normal version.

after getting back my MBP, I opened up VMWare, then remembered the new beta so I grabbed it.
The opening interface looks so much slicker than it did before, which is a very very nice move.
Also, installing updated VMWare Tools was pretty much automatic (another good point).

Ive not tried any games yet (cant be bothered a mo), but I did encounter one slightly amusing bug where hitting the maximise button on the window scaled everything down to a quarter its size. I laughed pretty hard at how amazingly cool that bug was (unfortunately it disappeared quickly). I also had a small amount of trouble getting it to recognise my external HDD, but disconnecting and reconnecting it did that bug away.

Anyone know if there's a way to use a firmware password with this?

I'm playing with the VMWare 2.0 release candidate. Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines runs ok. There are slowdowns in some of the large areas, but if they don't get any worse, I probably won't bother rebooting to play it.

VM specs. 2 processors, 3 GB RAM.

Awesome, I'm going to try to install it this weekend if I can find my disks. I did however try installing some adventure games last week and here are the results:

Murder in the Abbey - Plays perfectly but really slow during gameplay - Unplayable
Keepsake - Plays perfectly but really slow during gameplay - Unplayable
The Longest Journey - Plays perfectly but horrible graphical issues - Unplayable

Still Life - Plays perfectly but needs a patch for XP - Playable and completable
