Hi all,

Just wondered what the rule is when it comes to drivers in Boot Camp?
The reason I ask is that I'm using a Microsoft Habu mouse and I'm not sure if its ok to install the drivers for it or if I have to stick with the mouse drivers in Boot Camp? :unsure:

the boot camp drivers are just a set of drivers that gets Apple's stuff working quickly and simply. After that, you can feel free to replace the mouse driver and GPU driver etc. etc. as much as you want...

Macbook Pro - C2D 2.4Ghz / 4Gb RAM / WD Scorpio Black 320GB ( 255GB OSX v 42GB XP ) / Geforce 8600M GT 256Mb / 15.4"
Cube - G4 1.7Ghz 7448 / 1.5Gb RAM / Samsung Spinpoint 250GB / Geforce 6200 256Mb

We won! Apple offer the 17" with a matte screen! Well... at a price...

Yup--go ahead and install the Habu drivers. There may be a firmware update as well--be sure to check that out (btw, look on Razer's site for the latest updates).

Well things aren't going to plan :(
I've installed the Habu driver from the install dick and when I go to configure it I get a message saying that no mouse was detected and that I should scan the usb ports again.

When the control panels shows it tells me that I have Driver Version 1.00 and that Firmware Version is N/A.

When I go to mouse properties/hardware it shows 2 HID complient mice.

1. Properties:

Manufacturer = Microsoft
Location = Location 0
Driver = 5.1.2600.0

2. Properties:

Manufacturer = Microsoft
Location = on Bluetooth HID Device
Driver = 5.1.2600.0

In both instances it says the device is working properly!
I'd better mention that I have an Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse also configured which I presume is mouse 2?

Where did you get those drivers? Version 1.0 hasn't been in circulation for ages. The current version is 2.12 and the latest firmware is 2.03.

Try unplugging all of your USB devices, disconnecting your Mighty Mouse, and then plugging the Habu back in. If that doesn't work, let me know.

Hi Quicksilver,

I bought this mouse when I was in Singapore last year and the drivers are what came on the install disc.
I've done exactly as you suggested but sadly things are still the same and to make matters worse my wireless might mouse now wont work at all :(

Interesting. To be honest, I expected something like this to happen--whenever we get someone with mouse troubles in Windows, their entire system usually takes a dump once they start over from scratch. Anyway, try uninstalling the Habu drivers and then reinstalling them. Are we dealing with a wireless Mighty Mouse here, and are you running XP or Vista?

Oh--before I forget, what exactly did you when you did "exactly as I suggested?" I don't want credit for something that I didn't do. ;)

Hi Quicksilver,

I've done a bit more jiggery pokery (I think that Windows terminology) and I've now managed to get things working :)
Firmware and software all updated!
Thanks for the advice anyways

Even though you got it working, for future reference, the Habu is notorious for being "broken on install" with anything prior to version 2.0 installer software. Basically, when you buy a Habu, you throw away the CD, and go straight to the internet for its software, otherwise you will run into serious issues with A) Device never found, or B) Lots of BSODs.

Its a Microsoft product, and they wanted to adhere to their rigorous practice of quality products with simple to use and error-free software... /sarcasm.

Anyhow, glad to hear you got it working! Now, how IS the mouse?

I'm sure that you probably don't care about my vote, but I think that the mouse is excellent. I still have one laying around from my older review. The only serious flaw--one that you'd have to be pretty demanding to notice--is that the maximum acceleration of its first-generation laser sensor is quite low. Other than that, it feels like a DeathAdder, only a bit clunkier and heavier.

Oh, I already know the mouse is supposed to be a really nice device. In fact I've had it on a list of Crap™ I need to get sometime when I get around to clicking the buttons on webstores haha. I was just curious what the OP thought of his new shiny mouse now that he got it working.

Well, if you had to get a mouse, I'd start with the DeathAdder . . . and end there. :P
