I'm just embarking on BootCamp gaming through Vista 64, and I'm wondering if I have to specifically tell a particular game (Bioshock, in this case) that there are multiple cores, or does it automatically detect that? There were quite a few Mac games where one had to specifically select multiple processors in Settings, so I'd like to do it right. This Windows stuff is an ongoing mystery to me.

Bioshock doesn't seem multiprocessor aware. It just maxes out one processor on my machine. I don't know if there is a way to turn some setting that does SMP or not. Some games (I believe Supreme Commander does) take advantage of multiple processors.

If you don't see an option in the game, it's unlikely that you'll be able to change its multi-core aware status, or that it will be a beneficial change. Older games won't see the extra core(s), and newer games will usually auto-detect them (if they can). In rare circumstances, you'll find multi-core option buried away in the configuration files of single-threaded games, but enabling that usually results in chaos (Team Fortress 2 is a weird but solid example).

OK. Thanks. Using Windows is like walking around in someone else's kitchen and not knowing where anything is.

Mac ports usually have almost exactly the same interface...

Try to find the Windows bedroom and look for the panty drawer.

I assume you will only find something like the ones here.

Yeah, being inside the game is fine, but trying to find where the OS puts your stuff or how to modify files is a bit of a challenge.

Do Windows games have panty drawers? I haven't played that kind of shooter.

I'm assuming that everybody immediately applied the same clothes that I did. Poor Ballmer. :P

On a sidenote: It's funny that Supreme Commander does that, Total Annihilation had some similar gadgetry when it came out. Forgot what it was though. Nothing multi-processor thing, but something else, graphics related.. ah I forgot. (PS: SC and TA have the same designer)

Sorta, but I pictured him as a much more complex and disturbed individual. I gave him a parrot as a way for him to redeem himself, but it looks like the parrot isn't up to the task... on the verge of making a break for it. It's a good thing I nailed his feet to the perch.
