with a 8800GT you will be quite easily.
Polytetrafluoroethylene to my friends.

Macbook Pro - C2D 2.4Ghz / 4Gb RAM / WD Scorpio Black 320GB ( 255GB OSX v 42GB XP ) / Geforce 8600M GT 256Mb / 15.4"
Cube - G4 1.7Ghz 7448 / 1.5Gb RAM / Samsung Spinpoint 250GB / Geforce 6200 256Mb

We won! Apple offer the 17" with a matte screen! Well... at a price...

"can the new mac pros be serious gaming computers?"

32 GBs of RAM is pretty serious. Provided you have an extra $10,000, of course.
1.8Ghz Intel iMac (Q1 2006) 1.5 GB RAM, x1600 gfx card

"Heard joke once: Man goes to doctor. Says he's depressed. Says life seems harsh and cruel. Says he feels all alone in a threatening world where what lies ahead is vague and uncertain. Doctor says Treatment is simple. Great clown Pagliacci is in town tonight. Go and see him. That should pick you up." Man bursts into tears. Says "But Doctor... I am Pagliacci."

cool, I mean, I just want to play AVP2 and enemy territory. I will be very happy if I can play. I will be re-united with my PC brothers once again, and still have pro mac to make music.

Unless you buy it from a normal vendor. If you're willing to fill the eight slots with 2 GB modules, you'll find that 16 GB of FB-DIMMs can be had for about $450 plus tax. Higher density 4 GB modules are (unfortunately) more than twice as expensive, since they're not manufactured in super-high quantities and they're just plain harder to make.

32GB of RAM will also be about zero help for gaming. Buy this instead.

no need to be sorry, your computer is a very good computer. There are just a few upgrades that would make it a stunning computer

As a former member as one of the people with "greasy little hands," I find that mildly annoying. It's harder to get into Apple than it is to get into Stanford.

ok, well enemy terriroty plays fine, but AVP2 and Primal hunt are not working, so I do not know if this machine is good for games.

in Avp2 I get this error

Error message: "Could not set D3D emulation mode"

so then I updated my readon 2600 HD with the cytalist drivers or what ever and it doesnt work.

quake wars just crashes, even though I was able to play the game one time???????

so this machine can not be a real machine to play windows games, only ET seems to play without problems

I don't think its your computer's falt that you can't play games on windows, its something else

now is that because others on other kinds of set up ARE playing these games, and something is wrong with my $3000 mac running windows XP?

I know that a lot of people on this sight (me included) play windows games in bootcamp, but I can't really say what the problem is, I'm not the guy to ask. There are a lot of people on here that know a lot more about this topic then i do. My first assumption still stands though, its not your computers falt (i think). It might be that XP isn't installed properly or something, but i really don't know

If I can add my 2 cents:

While your machine is certainly capable of running games very, very well, even without any upgrades, I'd hardly call it an ideal gaming machine. In fact, with 8 cores, it's really overkill. Even 4 cores is overkill for just about every game currently on the market. So, yes, it will run games fantastically, but it's more of a workstation than a gaming rig. In fact, Apple doesn't make any Macs that qualify for that label. Everything they make is either non-upgradable (Mini, iMac, Macbook/Pro/Air) or is way too powerful and expensive to justify as a gaming machine alone. If you're also using your Mac for serious work that requires such a powerful machine (and I assume that you are) then its ability to run games well is a side benefit, the icing on the cake if you will.
There they were, sitting in the van with all those dials, and the cat was dead.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Even if games currently aren't making use of 4 cores (or more) they will soon enough. Crysis does, Alan Wake will when it comes out sometime this year... and that is just two quick examples. At the intel developers conference they demonstrated Alan Wake on a Quad Core PC overclocked to 3.6GHz. Often times people think something is overkill but then it comes to pass that it's not. Intel is making a gaming enthusiast platform using essentially a Mac Pro style motherboard but with SLI. This always happens with high end equipment of the time. But you are right about one thing... it is too expensive to justify using for gaming alone although. If you go to a site like Alienware you can easily put together a gaming PC just as expensive or even more expensive than a Mac Pro with an 8800... but with Quad Core rather than Dual Quad Core.
