32 GBs of RAM is pretty serious. Provided you have an extra $10,000, of course.
"Heard joke once: Man goes to doctor. Says he's depressed. Says life seems harsh and cruel. Says he feels all alone in a threatening world where what lies ahead is vague and uncertain. Doctor says Treatment is simple. Great clown Pagliacci is in town tonight. Go and see him. That should pick you up." Man bursts into tears. Says "But Doctor... I am Pagliacci."

Unless you buy it from a normal vendor. If you're willing to fill the eight slots with 2 GB modules, you'll find that 16 GB of FB-DIMMs can be had for about $450 plus tax. Higher density 4 GB modules are (unfortunately) more than twice as expensive, since they're not manufactured in super-high quantities and they're just plain harder to make.

I am sorry, I didnt want the people at the mac store touching my new macpro with there greasy little hands.
anywho, I have installed the drivers for my motu 867 audio interface, and it works flawless.
I have just downloaded ET and am about to test it out.

no need to be sorry, your computer is a very good computer. There are just a few upgrades that would make it a stunning computer

As a former member as one of the people with "greasy little hands," I find that mildly annoying. It's harder to get into Apple than it is to get into Stanford.

in Avp2 I get this error
Error message: "Could not set D3D emulation mode"
so then I updated my readon 2600 HD with the cytalist drivers or what ever and it doesnt work.
quake wars just crashes, even though I was able to play the game one time???????
so this machine can not be a real machine to play windows games, only ET seems to play without problems

I don't think its your computer's falt that you can't play games on windows, its something else

now is that because others on other kinds of set up ARE playing these games, and something is wrong with my $3000 mac running windows XP?

I know that a lot of people on this sight (me included) play windows games in bootcamp, but I can't really say what the problem is, I'm not the guy to ask. There are a lot of people on here that know a lot more about this topic then i do. My first assumption still stands though, its not your computers falt (i think). It might be that XP isn't installed properly or something, but i really don't know

While your machine is certainly capable of running games very, very well, even without any upgrades, I'd hardly call it an ideal gaming machine. In fact, with 8 cores, it's really overkill. Even 4 cores is overkill for just about every game currently on the market. So, yes, it will run games fantastically, but it's more of a workstation than a gaming rig. In fact, Apple doesn't make any Macs that qualify for that label. Everything they make is either non-upgradable (Mini, iMac, Macbook/Pro/Air) or is way too powerful and expensive to justify as a gaming machine alone. If you're also using your Mac for serious work that requires such a powerful machine (and I assume that you are) then its ability to run games well is a side benefit, the icing on the cake if you will.
