Inside Mac Games has posted a review of Aspyr's latest release, Guitar Hero 3 for the Mac. Here's a clip from the review:

If you look at the numbers, Aspyr's Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock looks like one of the best games for the Mac this Christmas season but in this case the numbers do deceive. The question remains, should Guitar Hero III gather some of your Christmas sponduliks?

I'm surprised it scored so highly, given the problems mentioned.

7 is a high score, thats the problem with the gaming world today. 5=average anything bellow <5=bellow average anything >5=above average.

Gaming is not part of the united states schooling system where a C (70%) is average! And unfortunately thats why you see almost no games bellow a 7/10, and if they are, no one buys them.

What he said.  There's no point in 7 being "average" because then you have a large range of below-average scores and only a small range of above-average scores, which makes most games seem pretty similar in quality, which obviously isn't the case.  It would be nice if there was more of the mindset that a game with a score of 5 is an OK game, worth playing if you like that sort of thing.

it depends on the mindset and criteria that the games are marked upon. Edge Magazine is the only real example i can think of where 5 truly is the average. with 10 being, for a long time, defined as 'Miyamoto'

until theres an official change in the way that the review system works here, I will assume that 7 is average, 8.5 and above being particularly noteworthy. Of course, i personally tend to get my reviews from other places when they come out on other platforms...

I played with Guitar Hero III for the Mac during the last few days. The only Mac it runs on without stuttering is our 8-core Mac Pro with the Radeon X1900 XT. Even then, we're running at 1024x768 with low quality settings. I'm told this is because GH III is so polygon intensive.

We've been playing with Guitar Hero III (and Rock Band) on our Xbox 360 and PS3. They both handle the intense polygons with a shrug. And since they are connected to our large 1080i LCD screen and Bose 5.1 sound system, we will have little motivation to play the Mac version during the holidays.

Our favorite "guitar" is the wireless "Stratocaster" that came with the Rock Band special edition for the Playstation 3.

They got the update out there pretty fast, you have to congratulate them on that. I already had the patch downloaded before the games release date here in Australia.
