Is anyone running an external Display as their primary display on their Macbook Pro in XP?
if so are you running 1.3 drivers or later?
if so...how?

what i basically need to know is how to install the ATI catalyst control centre on my macbook pro, so i can use my 22" display as my primary display. so far this is proving impossible. the only way i can think is by getting a copy of the 1.2 drivers.

any ideas?

you could always get the latest catalyst drivers and use those instead of Apple's rather lame attempts..

I can't set it as the primary (with dual displays) in XP either - this is with the 10.5 drivers and an 8600. Both the windows control panel and the nVidia one allow me to use  dual displays with the laptop screen as primary, or set the external display as the only display. I haven't tried updating the nVidia drivers.

the problem is, i cant install the catalyst drivers. each time i install them, then reboot, the application fails to open. all of them wont open.
i cant even set the external one to work alone though. and with the way i have my computer setup this is preventing me from windows gaming in any way :(

oh dear. and you say you cant run CCC?
unless youve got a time machine backup, which is probably a little bit better, theres not really much you can do here.

the situation kinda sorted itself out. my cousin called up and asked what i wanted for christmas, i said get me leopard and i'll pay the difference. so come crissy, i will do a fress re-install, no archive or nothing, which should fix my disk up. the this copy of bioshock i have here on my shelf can get the living popsnizzle played out of it!

I played bioshock without any driver hassle.. are you so desperate for an added screen? Especially on the MBP with x1600 it runs smoothly, but not at very high quality..

Carried over from the other topic: are the leopard graphical drivers any better?

I really couldnt answer that because they wouldn't install on my computer. I think the main point about them is they are officially supported to some extent. As for hellgate i dont know if its the sort of problem new drivers will fix. the ones your using cant be that old, it may be a problem that needs to be patched from within Hellgate london.

as for Bioshock on my Mbp, i dont have windows intslled at the moment so it doesnt matter, but if you look at my desk, if i wanna play on my Mbp display i have to croon my kneck to the side just to look at it. i cant move my chair over because there is no room there is a draw on that side. popsnizzlety really.
in a week i shall be playing bioshock ;)

Yeah but I'm always so close to the MBP, that it doesn't make a difference to me; that and I don't have a bigger external display device. We don't have a TV, and definitely no TFT one.

I've used TechTool Pro to repair a hard drive after partition issues with Boot Camp. If you have AppleCare, I'm pretty sure Tech Tool Deluxe came with it.

Mmmmm, dual screen Supreme Commander.

I currently use the app Screen Recycler to use my iMac G3 as a second screen/file server. Unfortunately there is no Windows version. There is something similar but its client application is windows only.

i tried dual screen SupCom and i can say it was pretty pointless... unless youve got 2 screens always hooked up to your computer for whatever reason, theres really not much point even thinking about enabling it as its just going to confuse you or be superficial.

personally i found the smooth scrolling of my logitech revolution to be much more useful, zoomed right out and right back in in an instant.

By the way, I sorted out Hellgates problems, meaning that this is the longest time I have gone without a driver update in windows. Whee! (the solution was simple: set model quality to "medium")

Ladies And entlemen the Great Dominic has triumphed over the ATI CCC.
Here is the detailed Fix, For anyone on IMG who wants to know or anyone surfing Teh INt3n3ts.
First of all for some reason the ATI CCC (Catalyst Control Centre) will not install on Windows XP if it has anything below the 2.0 Net Framework. so...

1. Install Windows Net Framework 2.0 you can download it from Here
that is all well but the Apple provided version of ATI CCC doesn't work at all for some reason (at least not on a Macbook Pro) so...

2. Download and install the ATI CCC as provided by ATI & AMD. Find it Here

3. Once they are both installed you should now be able to run CCC. it is an extremely Useful application as it allows you to control several aspects of how your GPU works (your ATI GPU of course). the ATI CCC has a panel that allows you to arrange the setup of the displays, here you will be able to set your external display as the primary one.

Voila. (i am installing Bioshock as we speak :D)

If there is anything i left out just ask me.
