Hey guys, I've recently installed UT3 on my 20" 2.4 Ghz 2gig ram w/ HD 2600 Pro Imac running XP Pro SP2 fully updated. I used mobility modder to install the catalyst 7.9 drivers and I also tried manually installing them (not much of a difference there).
The drivers work fine however I'm getting about 30+ fps running at 1440 x 900 High Settings with VSync off and Post Processing at Intense. The frames max at 40+ at times but also drop to the 20s during more intense parts. I tried using the mobility modder to install the latest catalyst 7.11 drivers, but those actually dropped my performance. I just wanted to confirm if this was normal for my setup, or if maybe I missed some sort of tweaking.

nope, thats pretty normal.
basically, UT3 is the next big engine, so its going to push even the latest rigs... or the top end of last year and the mid range of this year really.
as for the drivers, you need to pick what runs it the best and fastest. on windows there isnt any all encompassing solution. and on OSX, we dont really get a choice.
there was a german site that benchmarked all the maps in UT3, see for yourself what the slowest ones are and bear in mind theyre running on a 8800, which really is about twice as fast as the 2600 Pro.

Well, that's a bummer. I was hoping it'd be a bit better than that. Keeping the resolution the same, what do you get if you turn down the other settings?

setting the level of the post processing simply determines the look. basically, its more bloomy the more post processing you choose, but it doesnt change how the game runs.
i believe there is a way to remove post processing, but i cant remember if its in game or hidden...
what you can also do is set the amount of the screen rendered to 80% or something, meaning that while the resolution is set to , say 1440x900, the amount rendered is perhaps 1280x800 which is then stretched to fit 1440x900... resulting in more performance, but not that much loss of detail.
