So, Crysis at 1920x1200 is glorious to behold, even with most of the video settings at "medium" quality so that it will run acceptably on my rig. I have texture quality and one or two other options at "high," but nothing at "very high." Still, even with these settings there are moments in the game where it's so darned close to photo realistic that I just sit and stare at it in disbelief. Truly amazing!

As pretty as it is, though, an even happier point is that the combat is very tactical and very fun. I haven't had this much fun figuring out ways to take out entire battalions of enemy troops since FEAR. This game rewards you richly for being careful and setting up battles with sound tactics, and punishes you horribly for going in all "Rambo." Love it!

Definitely worth playing if you like shooters and have a system that can do it justice.

I scored a review copy yesterday & installed it last night.

Looks delicious with all settings on default.

Yes, it's the same old supersoldier clichι, and certain scenes in level 1 are straight out of Predator, but having the 4 different 'superpowers' and the sandbox levels will give it a lot of replayability I think.

Weapon names could have been a bit more imaginative, but other than that I can't find a fault with it so far!

I've heard from a friend that's gone through it that he loved the first half of the game because it was so wide open and, like you guys have mentioned, beautiful.  Having said that, he mentioned that in the second half the game became very linear and not nearly as enjoyable.

True it's Earth vs the Aliens but the way the story develops is very nice, fresh, and enticing along with great environments to sneak around in. I love bush crawl'n. ;)

i enjoyed the pseudo lack of linearity to the demo level. I stole a boat as soon as i came to the large bay and just skipped a whole load of baddies, while also approaching the outpost from the rear...

Surprisingly, the focus groups were really down on the whole super-used-car-salesman vs. evil aliens plot. ;)

Storyline with a guy seeking for tresure and a chick making crappy local tv shows gunning down pirates wouldn't be a bad idea ya know. It worked for naughy dog.

I think I'd like a super-market-cashier vs. evil used-car-salesmen plot.

Somehow, I can't really picture mario as a real badass, especialy when everything he collected can easily be stolen by sly cooper. If it's sonic or rachet on the other hand, then that would be another story.

Just thought I'd follow up with a down-side to the game. I don't know how far I am into the thing, but there's a level where you have to drive a tank in a big multi-vehicle battle. I can sum it up in two words:
HATE IT.

I've been stuck on this battle for some time now. I may just abandon the game because of this. Too bad, too, because I was having a lot of fun running and gunning. This vehicle stuff is really harshing my mellow. :)

Is that pseudo as far as the level? As it's predecessor Far Cry, you could climb that mountain any time you want.

What exactly can't you get done, if it is describable in an coherent way?

I know this is not related in any way to your situation, but there is a level is Gears of War where your character runs out of the back of a house to run smack into these two big fellas.  I tried to do the cover and shoot, but got my ass handed to me multiple times moving across the left side of the area. After a break from the game, I cranked it up and just ran like hell around the right side and got through this choke point on the first try. I amazed myself. If I have a point, it is that alternate paths and strategies can have far different results. And not intended as any kind of lecture. :)

Some of the later levels especially

are far more linear.
