Does Windows versions of shooters game such as CoD4 always come ahead of MAC version?
Why do we have to wait for half a year before we can get a MAC version of the games.

Does someone else want to handle this question?  I don't think I have enough patience today to explain the differences between Mac OS X and Windows, the pros and cons of the Direct3D and OpenGL APIs, the effect of market share on porting schedules, and Apple's quirks--all in one post.

Not that anyone cares, but part of my terseness is due to the fact that I just clean installed Windows XP 32-bit, Windows Vista 32-bit, and Windows Vista 64-bit twice--each. It's all for an IMG article, don't worry.  :sabber:

haha. sounds like you had fun.

ok elton (if thats really you), the reason for the release discrepancy is because the original developers make the games for the platforms that are going to sell the best. namely PC, x360 and PS3. each of these is a different architecture and uses pretty hugely different hardware to get the same effect. So theyre already making the engine 3 times over.

Aspyr come along and see the mac market for a game so they get the rights to port it, which takes time, then they actually port it, which takes quite a while, then they have to test it, which takes some time, and they also have to constantly pester Apple for help in the form of, you know, making OGL work at a reasonable enough speed to make the game run even just passably well.

it just takes time because the mac market isnt large enough for most companies to warrant developing for it from the outset.

its an image thing. Theyre just riding the popularity wave started by the Pirates of the Carribean films. Just give it few years and everyone will think that Westerns are the cool thing again.

I played it on the PC last year.
I think Battlefield 2 is better. Yet COD4 has a story element to it so it is quite different. I despise the endless spawning of enemies until you move forward. UBISoft even put that crap in Rainbow 6 Vegas 2. So if you don't move forward into the endless barrage of bullets you will run out of ammo before they run out of troops.

I hope the specs for CoD4 on a Mac aren't too high. I've got a 2.16GHz iMac with 256M of VRAM. If it doesn't play nicely, the kids aren't going to be clothed for a while.

P.S. Hi, I'm Matt. I'm a CoD2aholic.

I dunno why youd take your anger out on the kids!
seriously, its not their fault that the game got delayed and was difficult to port. so why deny them clothing?

If it doesn't run fast enough on my iMac, then a MacPro will purchased.

There is no discussion.
This is a final decision.
There will not be any compromises made.
