In that case, every other MMO must be absolutely horrible.
There is very little about WOW that is massive. When you enter a dungeon with a group, it becomes YOUR GROUP'S dungeon. No running into other parties in there which seems totally ridiculous. It isn't "unbearable grind" that is the problem. What is the problem is that it is only grind. Add to that the fact that nobody plays in character, and everybody is only interested in leveling, or becoming richer, and nothing is left but a static, fragmented world where you have to play the role of "errand bitch" for NPCs that have nothing important/interesting to say in a world with a pitifully shallow and underdeveloped backstory. I'd rather just play Diablo 2... at least THAT was fun for a little while.
I'm still waiting for a real MMO.

Instanced space is a good idea when there is a specific challenging objective that requires many coordinated players to accomplish. Although I'm not a fan of 20-40 player dungeons (and I'm done with WoW), the last thing you want in that situation would be spoilers (other players) coming in and messing up the scenario. Of the MMO's I've seen WoW does have a nice balance of public (mostly public) and private (instanced) space.
No argument on your "grind" comment.

ha, this is just what i meant about being a controversial post, people attacking it
Saying you don't like Wow is not controversial. I think Tetsuya is saying that instead of just saying WoW has "awful gameplay, graphics, world" to be more specific as to why they are awful not that this thread needs that.
