Just wondering how people are finding halo 3? i played it briefly (by "brief" i mean i played it for two hours where after telling a little kid to piss off i was forced to leave the store, not asked, Forced) i wasn't really pulled in all that much. but this is just because its not mine. i don't own a 360, ect...
one real gripe i had, was that it looked absolutely atrocious on a sony Bravia 1080i . this could have something to do with the HDMI .
i dunno.

and why do the grunts shoot at you? i thought they were on your side?

You went to a store where you hogged a machine for two hours, told a little kid to piss off, and then were forcibly removed? Are you surprised?

i am surprised i got so far! people just couldnt get me to leave.
as i was playing this funny little asian man came up to me and sort of just perched his head right next to my shoulder with a dropped jaw then turned to me and goes "oooooo Super!" and i just replied with a "fire trucking a!" . we then preceeded to laugh for the next minute. and no i didnt let him play after that i told him another T.V where he could...he was at lease thankful for that.

The Elites are the only ones to rebel from the Covenenant AFAIK. Or at least, that was the situation known before the game came out.

Halo 3- so far so good, better graphics, same-o game play, but I need to see more before I can judge properly.

I'm glad they ballenced out the weapons and took the emphasis off dual weilding.

Not countering your statement, I'm courious- How was the emphasis taken off dual wielding? I've been doing it in H3.

The idea was that the original Halo had a balance between weapons, grenades, and melee - all three were almost equally powerful. Halo 2 upset this by introducing dual-wielding, which made weapons more powerful. They were trying to re-balance it in H3 without removing dual-wielding.

lesser accuracy and longer reload times are the main two, but also having a few non dual wield weapons which are powerful to outweigh the benefits.

of course, theres still going to be balance changes as the game gets played even more extensively and the uber combos get spotted.

More powerful grenades, the assault rifle, and slower movement all contributed to the decline of dual wielding. Most of the dual wields require you to be a fairly close range to be effective, and Bungie slowed the moment of players down significantly for Halo 3. Because of this, players who are using grenades/assault rifle/battle rifle are much more effective fighters.

I've heard that Halo 3's multiplayer makes fight-from-cover style a lot more effective a la Halo 1. Would anybody who's played say that's true, or not really?

Yes. There is definitely a great element of cover used in Halo 3 than in Halo 2. A lot of the weapons are super powerful, as are the vehicles. Thankfully Bungie has supplied us with plenty of rocks to hide behind.

But no, it is nothing like GoW's cover system.

the amount of emphasis on cover is minimal at best. If you want a game with a really good realisic cover system check out gears of war or rainbow six: vegas. Halo is definetely still a run-and-gun shooter.

Finish the campaign Mike, and then come back and say that. Go play the High Charity level like you did Halo 1 and see if you ever beat it.

I wasn't actually talking about a "cover system." I mean, how useful is cover, and how usable is cover. And is it worth using, what with the new way speed and damage is handled. I gather from Blackshawk that's a yes.

I just remember liking how Halo 1 could be played many different ways, all of them successful. Some of the levels you can go through and kill everyone in the level without even firing a shot or being shot as long as you don't mind playing it like it's Metal Gear Solid. I found that pretty much impossible in Halo 2. And you could get through a lot of the harder fights without even taking a nick by fighting from cover to cover.

Not to mention Halo 1 multiplayer, when you got the really GOOD folks together, seemed to very much be a fight from cover type game. If you stood out in the open too much, you were dead before you even got a shot off. Halo 2 I found to be a LOT more run-n-gun, and a lot less outthink-the-enemy.

In otherwords, Halo struck a very nice balance between Gears of War gameplay and Unreal Tournament gameplay that I really enjoyed, and Halo 2 killed that dead. From what I've heard Halo 3 does a fine job reviving that.

I never had much experience with multiplayer, but playing H1 on Legendary meant a lot of fighting from cover - I couldn't survive otherwise.

Actually, small multiplayer anecdote: When I got my MBP this summer, I dusted of my Halo disc, it being one of the only Mac games I still had. I jumped into a CTF game in blood gulch, grabbed a shotgun, got into a warthog and drove over to the other base. There was one of our team in a firefight with three of theirs outside their base, who got killed just as I arrived. This left me free to kill all three of them with the warthog, jump out, shotgun a fourth, grab the flag, and head back out. I was running along, hearing them take potshots at me from behind, when one of my teammates pulled up in a 'hog, so I hopped in and we headed back. That flag won the match, so I ended up the top player, with a flag point, four kills and no deaths, all with less than 30 seconds of play. :) Turned out to be total luck though, since as soon as the next match started, it was total chaos, and I was getting my ass handed to me as usual... :P

The only time I use cover is when my shields are down, but then I just run out. Gears of War and RBS: Vegas, if you stay out of cover AT ALL you will die instantly.

Oh, and I would finish the campaign, but my damn 360 freezes up every half hour  .

I stated that it wasn't like GoW's cover system. Halo is much more of a run n' gun game but if you try and play this game like charging cavalry you'll be wiped on the floor like a paste.
