Just to let anyone know that the VGPHD Barcelona track v1.0 is now available for download in all three versions (high res=HD, mediumor standard res=SD, low res=LD). I hope you enjoy it as much as I did putting it together. Just go to the download section of the site.

Thanks a lot Jason for this Barcelona update.

I really like your idea of providing 3 resolution choices for us with lower specs computers.

Cheers

Thank you! I can't wait to try it. Is there a specs match for the different versions you offer?

Excellent job with the 1.0 release HD version. It makes such a difference to the game with the improved detail and more accurate adverts, not to mention the fantastic 2007 car set and tyres.

I'm really looking forward to the next one. Do you plan to update the cars and advertisements for VGP3 as well when that ships as well?

The carsets have already begun, but the tracks are still on the back-burner for VGP3. I am awaiting a few more tools from Paolo before I can tackle what I envision to be the finished product. I want it to look good. I will most likely do the same as I am for VGPHD where there will be an HD, SD and LD version of each track. It makes it easier on everyone (except myself, of course  ).

It really takes time to rework the original objects and textures, then go into track designer and re-link every separate section for the new added graphics. Just reworking the graphics would make only a slight visual change where changing the actual track layout to accommodate all the new graphics is much more detailed and makes for a better result.

I am very glad you like it. Thank You for the kind words.

You know, that might really be a good idea to post those. I will have to get an average and set the specs up.

I will say that judging by the specs you have listed in your sig, you may be able to run the HD versions fairly well. The 256MB video cards help a lot.

Thanks and I am glad you are enjoying it.

I am just trying to get the game to where I feel it could have been when it was originally released. I realize Paolo didn't have the luxury of an official F1 license and that can be a real downer. Especially if there is a very small (or sometimes no) community of people who rally around the game to mod it. I think VGP3 will be a much better community effort if we can get enough people interested. But it is going pretty slow right now. When the game is finished and I release the Official update to the tracks for VGP3, it should be a great looking game. And if we can get some mods going (a rally mod anyone ;) ) it could take off. We will have to wait and see.

your dedication to the project must be pretty astounding... though i can believe that this is a problem faced by all of the texture enhancement projects for old games...

ill have a look at this tonight and let you know how i fare.

I didn't mean to make it sound like I was complaining. I love doing this. Just when it is only myself, it can be time consuming. But I love getting the emails from those (there are a lot of MorphOS VGP2 fans!) who enjoy the enhanced tracks. When the project (VGPHD) is finished, it will immediately be ported to VGP3 if I have received the rest of the tools.

Thanks for the support. It makes it all worth while. I will probably release Hungary soon. There are a few object files I have to fix, then it should be ready.

Fantastic, I finally got a car set-up that keeps me competitive at Barcelona. I'm a bit slow on the straight but can finally keep up with the AI on high and actually pass them at a couple of corners if I get it right. Still simulation mode means that one mistake can really wreck your race and I still haven't managed to qualify on pole.
