:(

So I wrote Feral an email asking them about Trainz. This was the answer I got back from them.

"Unfortunately, the information you have been given is incorrect. We are not doing any porting work for Trainz."

So if Auran isn't developing it and Feral isn't either then I can only come to one conclusion that the game port for Trainz for the Mac is DEAD!

I haven't heard a word since last year around this time when they initially said it would be out by Christmas 2006.

Anyone have any news about Trainz for the Mac?

Apparently Feral will NOT. I sent there support an email about Trainz and they replied saying they have nothing to do with Trainz.

"Unfortunately, the information you have been given is incorrect. We are not doing any porting work for Trainz."

So if Auron is not working on it and Feral is not working on it.  Who is?

Maybe no one which is why nothing has been said about Trainz for the Mac since last year. I think the project is dead along with our hopes for this game to come to the Mac.
It certainly looks deader than a dead thing deciding its dead.  Shame really, as its the type of game the Mac needs.

Where exactly did you hear that Auran is not doing the port?

That Feral does not do this is nothing new. Take it from the mouth (well, sort of) of our Feral liason himself:

Feral will publish Mac Trainz, the development is being done by Auran.

What the heck is it with the Auran site anyway? I cannot get on it right now. Do they still exist in the first place?

Oh, yes, they exist all right - their web-site lists various simulators (train, boat etc etc) - unfortunately its a bit of mess.

Oh, I'd say it's dead, alright.

First, it's been over four years since people started talking about it, and almost two since they beta tested.

They (Auran) had some bankruptcy problems a while back which seems to have forced them to lay off a bunch of people, and, I'm guessing those Mac guys were among them.

Also, if you look in their forums, a few people have "RIP Mac Trainz" in their sig.

Shame, really. One of the most fun games I've played, and one of the greatest editors. Oh, and the community and add-ons were great.

From an inside source, I heard that the beta testers received an email from Auran stating that the project is not going ahead and has been completely and definitely killed off. Maybe IMG should follow up to confirm as a news item so that we can put this to rest.

Now this is certainly unexpected.

Yes it is. Great news for train fans, but way out of left field. I knew for a fact that the testing and project had been canceled a ways back, now this? Still, good news if you like choo-choos!

Well, if Trainz is available now, why does the N3V Games site still say "coming soon" for the Mac version?

The MGS also lists it only as available for preorder.

That could just be a negotiation between MGS and N3V that hasn't been finalized yet.  Auran Games and N3V Games are one and the same company - there shouldn't be any discrepancies between their websites.

I don't know about the States, but I used my plastic and downloaded it half way around the world to the UK.

Wonderful thing the internet.  :)

If you are a rail or train enthusiast of any kind your might want to have a look at this Trainz KickStarter:

Trainz Simulator: A New Era

This is a quote from the FAQs

"Initially it will be PC only (Windows 7 and 8). There is a stretch goal listed to port to other hardware platforms which would result in a simultaneous release. Even without the stretch goal, we expect to port to Mac within 90 days of release and then Linux, SteamOS some time after that."
