Has anyone else tried X3 yet? It seems like a pretty fun game, like a really updated EVE Online, but it crashes so much I can't play it for longer than ten or twenty minutes. Is this a cider problem or could it be a configuration problem that can be fixed?

Can you give us your configuration information (along with Mac OS X version)?

I hadn't had a single crash yet with X3, so that cannot be a general problem.

Can you describe what you are doing when the game crashes? Is there anything that seems to be repeatedly occurring before the crashes?

Hi,

I'm not quite up on the games terminology but it seems to happen exclusively when I am docked. Sometimes I hear something over the speakers about them calling security and it freezes, sometimes it's when I am going through the menu icons at the bottom of the screen and it's locked up hard.

Hmmm . . . it sounds like you might be seeing OpenAL crashes. When the game crashes, do you get the option to report the crash to Apple?

No, it just freezes, I never get any dialog boxes. If I am lucky I can force quit out of it, but usually I have to hold the power button down to turn the computer off.

Do you have the latest patch for X3 installed? I remember that this was supposed to fix some issues with the station announcements.

Ah, I had no idea there was a patch, thanks for that! I'll get it installed and let you know how that worked out. Thanks again.
