I saw the trailer for Starcraft 2 the other day, The one with the marine. I have never even really gotten into starcraft but, i just thought "How cool would an FPS where you're a marine be?"

it would run on Crytek2 ofcourse :nods:

Yeah, that would be kind of a neat idea.

I always thought that if they could do an online thing based around battles and not leveling and grinding, Starcraft would be a perfect candidate for an MMO. MMOFPS/RTS, instead of RPG.

Of course, just a basic FPS would be cool too, but I think I would want to be able to play as more than just a marine.

I only reason why I hate MMOs is levelling up and all that. Its always "Kill low level creature, gain XP, repeat until level up, kill higher level creature, gain XP, repeat until level up etc..."
Does anyone remember Savage? Each team has a commander who builds structures etc... whilst other players are the units themselves (but peons could be made to gather resources).

that sums up 99% of all MMOs. i would be very interested if there was any game out like savage now that would work on an intel mac

Starcraft Ghost is what you see when you look up "vaporware" in the dictionary.

i was actually going to mention starcraft ghost in my post (rhymes  ). Ghost was a stealth game, not an Action FPS. i think these ideas would be completely different. ghost never really took my interest. i mean the design of the whole game seemed utterly bland. after watching the Starcraft 2 marine trailer though i was just like.
"i wanna be him, i wanna wear big armor, big guns, ragdoll physics, starcraft universe=Ownage!"
the idea of being able to control the other races is a good one. see the war from all sides.

Naw, that would be DNF. Ghost is just a cancelled game. :)

StarCraft is based loosely on Warhammer 40k, and there have been many 40k games including one bad FPS. You could play that. Unfortunately, it has you playing a Tao IIRC, so it's more Protoss than Marine. If you're a fan of C&C, there's that merely mediocre FPS set within C&C. It captures the feel very well, and the multiplayer has some of the resource-collecting and base maintenance aspects.

That would be copyright infringement, though. The guy who made it is also looking at some trademark infringement.

I have discussed this with all of the moderators and we don't see a problem worth deleting nagromme's post.  Tesseract expressed it best and I quote him here:

There is no doubt that it is a derivative work of Blizzard's art, but I reckon it's fair use. Trademarks are almost irrelevant because there is no chance that anyone would think that this guy officially represents Blizzard, but he probably should have a disclaimer that makes that clear.

This is all moot if he obtained Blizzard's permission, of course. And in fact this indicates that they grant blanket permission for a lot of stuff, as long as it's non-commercial.

Thanks for checking into it! I actually downloaded the character long before I knew it wasn't original: it just looked cool. Now I know that Protoss comes from SC. I didn't even think before posting--glad it wasn't an issue.

I don't feel bad about my AvP UT2004 characters since I own that game :)

My Judge Judy taunt set may be another matter... but how can I give up "I like where your head is at!" after making a good headshot?

Sorry... back on/T...
