I wouldn't say the PPC is "done" or "dead". That's just phony.

I will say the PPC has cancer in it's mid 40's. Which means its got a lot of hope and time left. A vast majority of programs are still being made on it.

We are only seeing a short few games jump to Intel-Mac only.

The real question is how much % of people own GAMEABLE Intel Macs (NOT a Macbook or mini) and how many people own Gameable PPC's?

I would make anyone a bet here that more people have game-ready PPC's.

I have a 20" iMac, and it' s a great machine. It eats my G5 in OSX "zippyness". But for games, my G5 has the clear upper hand with it's 6800 Ultra. The iMac is also a $1800 machine, which tends to lead me to believe that most of the mac-buyers will buy something cheaper like a mini or Macbook...which can't play games worth the asshole.

I still don't know if it's wise from a developer standpoint to only create a game that only less than 50% of mac users will buy, speaking that I'm estimating WAY more people have PPC's for gaming than Intel Macs.

As long as the PPC consumers are there, we will still be seeing games.

That kinda brought my hopes up, thanks, haha.

No AAA release within the past few years unless you count the outgoing console generation that are still PPC Powered.... oh and Wii U of course. Hell, not many indie releases either except perhaps a few source ports like eduke32 but even they are ditching PPC support because it's easier to just support what everyone uses.

Not a game, but Rapidweaver ended PowerPC support recently. I think that's the final signal of doom when a sufficient number of web developers have upgraded that it's not worth supporting.

Really though, the last PowerPC Mac that has enough power to still be relevant these days is a Quad G5 (about equivalent to a mid-2010 Mac mini) and there aren't that many of those out there. The next most powerful PowerPC Mac has a little over half that horsepower. That's getting slow.

Most of the PowerPC "Only" games we sold we have moved into the R.I.P department. Prior buyers can still download and install them, but they are no longer in the roster to buy or search or list.

We did this because of the stats of users. Which now rests at 98.8% Intel users, and 0.2 % PowerPC Only. Thats hardware. There are a lot of 10.6.8 users who can still run PowerPC only games through rosetta just fine (without resorting to 3rd party virtualization software). And 10.6.8 users make up 21.1% of all, with 10.9 being 33.7%.

That leads to the question what kind of machines the remaining 1% user are running? 68k Macs?

Well they have to be running 10.5, as our app won't run on anything less. So I would imagine the remaining PPC Only machines are the end of the run, not the early macs.

Its really difficult to pull machine specs out of browser agents reliably, so I'm sure more than 1% visit the site, its just less than 1% end up buying and using the app/store.
