Hi:

I am trying to replay BG2 & ToB on my MacBook Pro (2nd gen). I have managed to do a full install, and get both games installed. When I go to start, I insert the ToB disk and it seems to start (i.e. startup screens, gets to BG2 / ToB select screen) and then asks for the BG2 disk #1, and doesn't seem happy when I insert that one. If I try to start from the BG2 disc #1 it immediately complains about the wrong disc ... then I am back to te hsame point again. I can never get it past this point. Is there anything additional I need to do? I've never played on my Intel machine before - is this the issue?

When u did the full install, i assume you did the regular install with disk 1 then did the full install with disks 2-4. After that you shouldn't update SoA. Do the full install for ToB and then update ToB. The other thing you should do is go into spotlight and make sure under permissions you exclude teh baldurs gate 2 folder. I found out spotlight really causes problems for the game. This isnt listed on the macplay site but as soon as i have ever done that almost all problems for BG2 have gone away for me.

OK, I'll try that - I have all of my discs, made sure I removed everything that was installed, and downloaded the update from MacPlay. Time to try again! Thanks for the advice!

ok after doing a quick look around on the net i found this solution if you cant get umar hills to load as well.
just follow the instructions in the reply where you have to copy the 2 .bif files from cd4 data folder to cd3 data folder. Note you have to duplicate them not move them:)

I have run BGII with 3D on an iMac Core Duo under 10.4.8 with the 256MB VRAM Radeon and it was very fast an fluid with no crashes.

Running with 3D on a B&W G3 under 10.2.8 with the original 16MB VRAM Rage 128 and had horrible performance and lots of crashes.

YMMV, so try it out on your system.

Oh - I have played ~4-5 times between Mac and PC before ... just wanted to play through it again.

Now I have save game issues - it exits with a save error (actually it gives me a choice) but can't do a full or quick save.

This is a well-known bug: check for the presence of a file called 'temp' in your BG2 folder; if it's there, delete it and create a 'temp' folder in its place. Alternatively, just install the BG2 Fixpack; it fixes this automatically. If you haven't done so already, it's also a good idea to disable Spotlight indexing of the BG2 folder.

Be sure to turn Spotlight off for the BG2 folder - It somehow breaks the game when saving.. It might be related.

It is.

Have you patched the game to the most recent version? I'm running the game in 10.5.2 on an Intel Mac, and it runs as well as it ever has on OS X.

I have and still no luck, although I tried another method which I read about on a different thread. To copy all of the CD 2-5 data files in to the main SoA Data folder, this time i got as far as the character creation screen, made a new character and subsequently had it crash on me :( . I have temporarily uninstalled it from my harddrive. I would have installed using classic but unfortunately when i recently reformatted my computer i lost classic due to using my dads startup disc, mine's in a another country

If you crashed when selecting a character class, that's a known bug. You can select Monk, Sorcerer, Barbarian, or Mage without crashing (any class which doesn't bring up the kit selection screen). This isn't 100% consistent, so you can just keep trying and hope that it will eventually work; there is no workaround for this issue.

If moving the data/ folders around solved your startup issue, make sure you have "3D Acceleration" disabled. This will interfere with the game's ability to bring up error dialogs (you were probably missing on an alert telling you why the game was crashing on startup if you had 3D acceleration on), not to mention that it doesn't really work well at all under Mac OS X. Simply moving the BIFFs to the top-level data/ folder shouldn't solve any crashing issue; regardless, make sure you've updated your paths in Baldur.ini (under the Aliases section) -- if everything is in data/ and you've gotten rid of the CDn/data folders, the paths should all read CDn:=: (where n is 1-5). Make sure you've moved all the movies/ BIFFs to a top-level "movies" folder (you'll need to create it), and then you can delete the CDn/ folders entirely.
