Instead of having a warping backdrop its background's tiled grid changes in color corresponding to shots and explosions. Also, one doesn't control shooting at all, which is done automatically by the game at whichever enemy is closest. All you have to do is to avoid enemies and collect stars to upgrade your weapon eventually. The multiplier works in a similar fashion as in GW, as far as I've read, by destroying more and more enemies. Dying resets it. Also, there are limited special super weapons one can use when one is in a tight spot, which pretty much eradicate any threat.
The controls are very simple, mouse/trackball/touchpad for moving and any mouse click for deploying the super weapon. Tried it both with my trackball and touchpad. Works rather nicely on the touchpad although my trackball provides more precise control.
All in all, it's a nice, pretty little game that runs very well even on somewhat older hardware.
