Hiya,

Hey, I've searched around here and gamespot and can't find out where I _think_ I saw mention of the old atomic games @ destineer crew working on some new and improved close combat game.  Uh, I don't mean the fps game though - something akin to the old <gak> microsoft close combat series like a bridge too far - the only one on the mac...

I managed to get bridge too far to run on my powerbook under classic mode (it runs great by the way!), and got to wondering...

Sheesh...it's brought back memories too of that ol' V for Victory series...wunder if I've got that lying around somewhere...how's a floppy work again???   ;)

the V for Victory series was great.  i have on CD's.  however, you would need to regress to OS 7.6 to get it to run.  these games were the best mix (for me) of simulation and playability.

It's been out for a couple of months. But the game was published and created by Matrix Games.
The game is titled Close Combat - Cross of Iron.

See Here.

They licensed the original Close Combat games from Destineer.

We will probably never see it in my estimation.

This one not, but there was another Close Combat title in the works, called "Red Phoenix" focusing on modern combat. It's supposed to be something like a cross between the old CC titles (meaning it's a RTT) and CC:FTF (modern setting). The whole thing is under development by Destineer and also meant to be released for Mac.

I haven't heard anything new about this for quite a while, though.

Close Combat: Red Phoenix, here is a snippet on IGN:

IGN on CC: Red Phoenix

They say it was put on hold in 2005 and will unlikely see the light of day.

Too bad. IMHO the best RTS/RTT games out there. I would love to se a new one for mac. Doesn't even have to be ww2, just give me soldiers panicking or going berzerk!

Aspyr published Silent Storm, which is pretty good.

Ah - so it is this Cross of Iron thing.  I wasn't sure...although this Red Phoenix might be more along what I was thinking...

Yep - that figures such a good game would dissolve away like that...and/or end up being windows only.

Well, my macbook pro is enroute.  That should significantly open up gaming possibilities...except for V for Victory eh! I don't see system 7 running on it!

heh!

I got rid of all my old, old macs last year - no more LC, IIsi, IIci, powerbase...no more system 7 here...

There is that emulator though, uh, Basilisk?  Hm. I've not tried building that lately, I think the developer finally got sound working right...  Anyone fooled with that?

As it seems: when hell freezes over. See above. It's a shame.
