Inside Mac Games has posted a review of ANKH, the graphic-adventure developed by Deck 13 and ported to the Mac by Runesoft. Here's a clip from the review:

Ankh does an admirable job of capturing the feel of the old adventure game style. The dialogue is irreverent and at times elicited actual laughter from me. The characters are varied and vibrant and the puzzles are tricky and fun to solve. In short, the game is a lot of fun to play. Unfortunately, it’s a lot of fun to play in spite of a great many shortcomings. Even worse, many of those shortcomings appear to be the result of a remarkably shoddy port from the PC.

It's funny how the port costs twice as much as the Windows version when in debuted. Yes, Windows Ankh was released as a budget title at $20. Not to mention it isn't a buggy piece of popsnizzle either. Thank you Runesoft for another nail in the Mac adventure coffin.

Yeah, I was ready to be perfectly happy with the game as I was reviewing it until I hunted down some PC screenshots during the course of trying not to get the damn thing to crash constantly.

It's horrific how much better the PC version looks than the Mac version. And it's not my machine... I'm running a top of the line MacBook. It's just a shoddy port. A real shame.

I've played this game on both archs from beginning to end and I see no difference at all from the PC version, you have played it in an gma950 macbook? The opengl intel driver are not as good as the nvidia or the ATI ones, and you may have serious texture problems if you use shadows (cause you run out of gfx memory space and the game will cut off bigget texture, like the sky box you complain about in the review).

Try to disable shadows to use highres textures, or try it on a mac with a better gfx card.

I've played it on a MacBook with a RadeonX1600 graphics card with 256MB of VRAM, which vastly outstrips the 32MB that Runesoft says the title needs and is still double the 128MB that it recommends.

There's no reason this game shouldn't have looked awesome on my machine.

And disabling shadows didn't effect any real change in the look of the game for me.
